Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 19: 5,722 new Covid cases were reported in Kerala today. 4,904 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection was unknown for 643. There were 58 health personnel among those infected today. At the same time, 6,860 patients have recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 26 recent deaths were confirmed today as caused by Covid and the related death toll has reached 1,969 in the state.
67,017 samples were tested during the past 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 8.54%. A total of 56,88,651 samples have been sent for testing till now.
The district-wise numbers for the new positive cases are Malappuram 862, Thrissur 631, Kozhikode 575, Alappuzha 527, Palakkad 496, Thiruvananthapuram 456, Ernakulam 423, Kottayam 342, Kollam 338, Kannur 337, Idukki 276, Pathanamthitta 200, Kasaragod 145 and Wayanad 114. Of those diagnosed today, 117 have come to the state from outside.
The figures for the people infected through contact worst in the districts are Malappuram 836, Thrissur 614, Kozhikode 534, Alappuzha 519, Palakkad 277, Thiruvananthapuram 343, Ernakulam 283, Kottayam 340, Kollam 331, Kannur 244, Idukki 225, Pathanamthitta 117, Kasargod 134 and Wayanad 107.
The count for the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam 12, Kannur 10, Thrissur 8, Kozhikode 6, Thiruvananthapuram & Pathanamthitta 5 each; Kollam, Palakkad & Kasaragod 3 each, Malappuram 2 and Wayanad 1.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 658, Kollam 596, Pathanamthitta 124, Alappuzha 626, Kottayam 402, Idukki 219, Ernakulam 936, Thrissur 836, Palakkad 406, Malappuram 522, Kozhikode 894, Wayanad 118, Kannur 337 and Kasaragod 146.
So far, a total of 4,75,320 people have been cured of Covid in Kerala while 68,229 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.
There are 3,18,025 persons totally under isolation across the state – 3,01,547 under home or institutional quarantine and 16,478 under hospital surveillance. 2,131 people were admitted to the hospitals today.
Four new hotspots were demarcated today in Kollam, Idukki and Palakkad districts even as 24 areas were excluded. Presently, there are 565 hotspots in the State.
