Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 23: Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that 5,376 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Kerala today. There are 42,786 patients now under treatment. 4,424 are cases of infection through contact and the contact source of 640 was not traceable (total of 5,064 contact cases). 99 healthcare workers were among those infected. Meanwhile, 20 deaths were reported today even as 2,951 patients have recovered from the disease.
Briefing the media, the Chief Minister said, “This is the first time the number of cases has crossed the 5,000 mark in the State. The increase in numbers is a matter of grave concern as the situation is not improving. In the last 24 hours, 51,200 tests were conducted against our target of 50,000. For now, people who test Covid positive but are asymptomatic and have facilities at home should continue in home isolation. The home environment would help them recover fast. This would also lessen the burden on the hospitals and would facilitate the treatment of those with symptoms and having other diseases.”
The district-wise numbers for the positive cases today are Thiruvananthapuram 852, Ernakulam 624, Malappuram 512, Kozhikode 504, Kollam 503, Alappuzha 501, Thrissur 478, Kannur 365, Palakkad 278, Kottayam 262, Pathanamthitta 223, Kasargod 136, Idukki 79 and Wayanad 59.
The deaths confirmed today as due to Covid are Rajesh (37), Sulfat (57) & Susamma Raju (62) from Kollam district; Paulson (68), Salil (49) & Mohan (64) from Thiruvananthapuram district; Maithili (85), Ishad Babu (40), P Sremati (85), Musa Koya (83), Nafisa (78), Abdulla (74), Muhammad (70), P Raveendran (84), Mohammad (68), Koran (68), Muthoran (86) & Aishabi (81) from Kozhikode district, and Shanmukhan (71) & Abdul Salam (45) from Malappuram district.
The numbers for the locally transmitted cases from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 822, Ernakulam 587, Kollam & Kozhikode 495 each, Malappuram 485, Thrissur 465, Alappuzha 450, Kannur 323, Palakkad 271, Kottayam 256, Pathanamthitta 174, Kasaragod 125, Idukki 61 and Wayanad 55.
The details of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 25, Kannur 19, Ernakulam 17, Malappuram 15, Thrissur 12, Kollam & Kasaragod 3 each, Alappuzha 2, and Pathanamthitta, Palakkad & Wayanad 1 each. Nine INHS personnel in Ernakulam District Employees were also infected by Coronavirus.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 321, Kollam 152, Pathanamthitta 127, Alappuzha 167, Kottayam 275, Idukki 55, Ernakulam 254, Thrissur 180, Palakkad 150, Malappuram 372, Kozhikode 427, Wayanad 27, Kannur 142 and Kasaragod 302. So far, 1,04,682 people have been cured of Covid in the State.
There are a total of 2,12,629 persons under observation across the state, 1,86,140 under home or institutional quarantine and 26,489 in hospitals. 3,131 people were admitted to the hospitals today.
Till now, a total of 25,45,385 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,98,189 samples from priority groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
17 new places were demarcated as hotspots today while 15 areas were excluded. At present, there are 641 hotspots in Kerala.
