Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 07: 10,606 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today as per the Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja. At the same time, 6,161 patients under treatment have recovered from the disease. Both are the highest single-day figures to be reported so far in the State. Of those diagnosed today, 9,542 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection was not traceable in 741 cases. 98 healthcare workers were among those infected by the virus.
Meanwhile, 22 recent deaths were confirmed as being caused by Covid taking the death toll in the State to 906. The deceased were identified as Mohanakumar (60), Safia Beevi (74), Xavier (90), Sankaran (74), Murugappan Achari (74), Leela (59), Jainamma (66), Fathima (65), Manikuttan (47), Jayan (43), Jagadamma (74), Dasan Nadar (90), Kamaluddin (70) & Ahmed Basheer (71) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Kannan (88) from Kollam district, Basheer Kutty (67) from Alappuzha district, Jhansi Joseph (54) from Idukki district, and Fathima (56), Abu (76), Hamsa (77), Pathumma (75) & Hamsa (80) from Malappuram district.
The district-wise figures for those who tested positive for Coronavirus today are Kozhikode 1,576, Malappuram 1,350, Ernakulam 1,201, Thiruvananthapuram 1,182, Thrissur 948, Kollam 852, Alappuzha 672, Palakkad 650, Kannur 602, Kottayam 490, Kasargod 432, Pathanamthitta 393, Wayanad 138 and Idukki 120. Of those infected, 55 have come back from foreign countries and 164 from other states.
The number of people from the districts, infected through contact are Kozhikode 1,488, Malappuram 1,224, Ernakulam 1,013, Thiruvananthapuram 1,155, Thrissur 931, Kollam 847, Alappuzha 667, Palakkad 372, Kannur 475, Kottayam 489, Kasaragod 407, Pathanamthitta 271, Wayanad 131 and Idukki 72.
The count of infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 20, Ernakulam 20, Malappuram 12, Kannur 11, Kasargod 10, Pathanamthitta 9, Thrissur 7, Kollam 5, and Palakkad & Wayanad 2 each. Six INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were also infected by the disease.
The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 820, Kollam 346, Pathanamthitta 222, Alappuzha 393, Kottayam 453, Idukki 89, Ernakulam 385, Thrissur 320, Palakkad 337, Malappuram 743, Kozhikode 589, Wayanad 103, Kannur 1,188 and Kasaragod 173.
At present, there are 92,161 patients undergoing treatment for Covid in the State while 1,60,253 people have so far recovered from the disease.
There are a total of 2,67,834 persons under observation across the state, 2,38,331 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 29,503 in hospitals. 2,922 people were hospitalised today.
The number of tests being conducted has increased with 73,816 samples being tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 33,40,242 samples have been sent for testing till date, including 2,10,648 samples from priority groups, as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
14 new places were demarcated as hotspots today while 12 areas have been excluded. There are presently 720 hotspots in Kerala.
