Five new hotspots, total 106

Thiruvananthapuram, May 30: Health Minister, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 58 people have been confirmed with Covid-19 in Kerala today.

Ten persons from Thrissur district, nine in Palakkad district, eight from Kannur district, four each in Kollam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts, three from Kasargod district, two each in Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha districts, and one from Kottayam district are those who tested positive for the infection. Apart from this, seven employees of Air India employees were also confirmed to have been infected with the virus. The list also includes the test results of a person who died yesterday while undergoing treatment for liver disease in Alappuzha district.

Of the new cases, 17 were returnees from overseas (Kuwait-6, UAE-6, Oman-2, Saudi Arabia-1, Qatar-1 & Italy-1) and 31 have come back from other States (Maharashtra-19, Tamil Nadu-9, Telangana-1, Delhi-1 & Karnataka-1). One health worker in Palakkad district and two others in Kollam and Palakkad districts have got infected through primary contact.

Meanwhile, ten patients under treatment for Coronavirus have tested negative today. Four patients from Malappuram district (one a native of Palakkad), three in Thrissur district, and one each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Kannur districts were those who recovered. So far, 575 people have been cured of Covid. Presently, 624 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

There are in total 1,30,157 people under observation in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,28,953 are under home or institutional quarantine and 1,204 are isolated in hospitals. 243 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

In the last 24 hours, 3,206 samples were sent for testing. Till now, samples from 65,002 individuals (including the augmented samples) have been sent for testing and of the available test results, 62,543 samples were negative. In addition, as part of Sentinel Surveillance, a total of 12,255 samples were collected from high priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and people with high social contacts and out of these, 11,232 samples were confirmed with no infection.

Today five new places were declared as hotspots – one each in Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad districts and three in Kottayam district. There are currently 106 hotspots in the State

Till date, 1,27,089 people have arrived in the State from abroad and other States  – 1,621 through Seaport, 9,796 by trains, 17,720 through airports and 97,952 by road.
