Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 16: Covid-19 was detected in 6,185 persons in Kerala today. 5,295 people were infected through contact and the contact source for infection was unknown for 770. There are 54 healthcare workers among those infected. At the same time, 5,728 patients have recovered from the disease today. Meanwhile, 27 deaths in the last few days were confirmed today as being caused by Covid taking the death toll in the State to 2,707.
61,882 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.99%. A total of 71,18,200 samples have so far been sent for testing.
The district-wise numbers for the new positive cases are Ernakulam 959, Kozhikode 642, Thrissur 585, Kottayam 568, Kollam 507, Pathanamthitta 443, Alappuzha 441, Malappuram 437, Palakkad 401, Wayanad 361, Thiruvananthapuram 345, Kannur 250, Idukki 186 and Kasaragod 60. Today, 66 of those diagnosed with the disease have travelled to the state from outside.
The count of the locally transmitted cases in the districts are Ernakulam 687, Kozhikode 622, Thrissur 566, Kottayam 537, Kollam 502, Pathanamthitta 341, Alappuzha 428, Malappuram 407, Palakkad 205, Wayanad 351, Thiruvananthapuram 223, Kannur 196, Idukki 175 and Kasaragod 55.
The tally of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 10, Thiruvananthapuram & Ernakulam 9 each, Wayanad 5, Thrissur & Palakkad 4 each, Kozhikode & Kasaragod 3 each; Pathanamthitta, Kottayam & Malappuram 2 each, and Kollam 1.
The district-wise figures of the patients whose test results were negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 320, Kollam 375, Pathanamthitta 226, Alappuzha 366, Kottayam 409, Idukki 316, Ernakulam 720, Thrissur 550, Palakkad 331, Malappuram 943, Kozhikode 788, Wayanad 155, Kannur 100 and Kasaragod 129.
So far, a total of 6,22,394 people have recovered from Covid in Kerala even as 58,184 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.
There are currently 2,99,057 people under isolation in various districts of the state – 2,85,919 under home or institutional quarantine and 13,138 in hospitals. 1,678 persons were hospitalised today.
10 new places were declared as hotspots today while two areas were excluded. There are 450 hotspots in the State now.
