Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 15: 1,608 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. Sharing details, the Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja informed that 1,409 persons were infected through contact and the contact source of 112 was unknown. 74 of the infected have returned from overseas and 90 from other states. At the same time, 803 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered today.
Seven deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid. Judy (69), Lakshmikutty (69) and Ravi (58) from Thiruvananthapuram district; Philomina (70) from Kollam district, Sati Vasudevan (64) and M D Devassy (75) from Ernakulam district and Aziz D’Souza (81) of Kasaragod district were the deceased. This brings the Covid-related death toll in the State to 146. Further deaths will be confirmed after subsequent tests at NIV, Alappuzha.
The district-wise figures of the positive cases are 362 persons in Malappuram district, 321 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 151 in Kozhikode district, 118 from Alappuzha district, 106 in Ernakulam district, 91 from Kollam district, 85 in Thrissur district, 81 from Kasargod district, 74 in Palakkad district, 52 from Kannur district, 49 in Pathanamthitta district, 48 from Wayanad district, 39 in Kottayam district and 31 from Idukki district.
The details of the locally transmitted cases are 313 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 307 in Malappuram district, 134 in Kozhikode district, 106 in Alappuzha district, 99 in Ernakulam district, 86 in Kollam district, 77 in Thrissur district, 71 in Kasaragod district, 49 in Palakkad district, 47 in Kannur district, 40 from Wayanad district, 33 from Kottayam district, 31 from Pathanamthitta district and 16 from Idukki district.
31 healthcare workers were also infected – 19 in Malappuram district, six in Thiruvananthapuram district and each in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts. Four INHS personnel were also among those infected by Coronavirus.
The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative today are 170 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 124 in Ernakulam district, 92 from Palakkad district, 80 in Alappuzha district, 63 from Thrissur district, 56 in Kozhikode district, 45 from Kottayam district, 42 in Kollam district, 39 from Idukki district, 37 in Pathanamthitta district, 32 from Kannur district, 20 in Wayanad district and three from Kasaragod district.
Till now, 27,779 persons have been freed from Covid and 14,891 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the State.
1,60,169 people under observation across the state, 1,46,811 are under home or institutional quarantine and 13,358 are in hospitals. 1,859 persons were admitted to the hospital today.
32,108 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 11,54,365 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 9,246 samples are yet to be announced. 1,47,640 samples were collected from high exposure groups as part of the Sentinel Surveillance and the results of 2,338 samples are awaited.
20 new hotspots were declared today while 12 places were exempted. There are at present 562 hotspots in Kerala.
