Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 16: 4,969 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Kerala today along with 4,970 patient recoveries. 4,282 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection was unknown for 541. There are 47 medical staff among those infected today. In the meantime, 27 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid and death toll in the state is now 2,734.
60,851 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 8.17%. A total of 71,79,051 samples have so far been sent for testing.
The figures for the new positive cases from the districts are Kozhikode 585, Malappuram 515, Kottayam 505, Ernakulam 481, Thrissur 457, Pathanamthitta 432, Kollam 346, Alappuzha 330, Palakkad 306, Thiruvananthapuram 271, Kannur 266, Idukki 243, Wayanad 140 and Kasaragod 92. Today, 99 of those diagnosed with the disease come to the state from outside.
The numbers for the people infected through contact in the districts are Kozhikode 540, Malappuram 467, Kottayam 474, Ernakulam 357, Thrissur 446, Pathanamthitta 356, Kollam 339, Alappuzha 304, Palakkad 137, Thiruvananthapuram 192, Kannur 222, Idukki 230, Wayanad 135 and Kasargod 83.
The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 10, Ernakulam 9; Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta & Kozhikode 5, Malappuram 4; Kollam, Thrissur & Palakkad 2 each, and Idukki, Kottayam & Kasaragod 1 each.
The district-wise numbers for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 265, Kollam 418, Pathanamthitta 184, Alappuzha 484, Kottayam 576, Idukki 98, Ernakulam 565, Thrissur 440, Palakkad 277, Malappuram 520, Kozhikode 780, Wayanad 209, Kannur 101 and Kasargod 53.
At present, there are 58,155 patients still undergoing treatment for Coronavirus infection while a total of 6,27,364 people have so far recovered from the disease in the state.
There are currently 2,96,747 people under observation in various districts of the state – 2,83,389 under isolation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 13,358 in hospitals. 1,563 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
Seven new hotspots were declared today even as four areas were excluded. Presently, there are 453 hotspots in Kerala.
