30 new hotspots, total 599

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 28: 2,543 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today as per the Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja. At the same time, 2,097 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered and were discharged from hospitals today.

Of those diagnosed today, 2,260 were cases of local transmission and the contact source in 229 was unknown. 75 are returnees from abroad and 156, from other states. 52 healthcare workers were also infected by Coronavirus.

Seven recent deaths in the State have been confirmed today as due to Covid-19 taking the death toll to 274. The deceased are Mohammad Fathima (70), Madaswamy Chettiar (80), Rajamma (85) & Krishnankutty (69) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Madhavi (77) & Abubaker Khaji (80) from Malappuram district, and P V Yusuff (54) from Kannur district. More deaths will be confirmed after further tests at NIV, Alappuzha.

The district-wise figures for the new positive cases are 532 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 298 from Malappuram district, 286 in Alappuzha district, 207 from Ernakulam district, 189 in Thrissur district, 174 from Kozhikode district, 157 in Kasaragod district, 156 from Kollam district, 135 in Kannur district, 127 from Palakkad district, 126 in Kottayam district, 88 from Pathanamthitta district, 49 in Idukki district and 19 from Wayanad district.

497 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 279 in Malappuram district, 228 from Alappuzha district, 179 in Ernakulam district, 178 from Thrissur district, 157 in Kozhikode district, 152 from Kollam district, 144 in Kasargod district, 120 from Kottayam district, 117 in Kannur district, 98 from Palakkad district, 69 in Pathanamthitta district, 29 from Idukki district and 13 in Wayanad district were those infected through contact.

22 healthcare workers in Thiruvananthapuram district, six each in Malappuram and Kannur districts, five each in Ernakulam district, four each in Palakkad and Kozhikode districts, two each in Alappuzha and Thrissur districts and one each in Kasaragod district were also infected.

The district-wise numbers of patients who tested negative today are 544 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 93 from Kollam district, 49 in Pathanamthitta district, 150 from Alappuzha district, 82 in Kottayam district, 36 from Idukki district, 155 in Ernakulam district, 110 from Thrissur district, 93 in Palakkad district, 345 from Malappuram district, 106 in Kozhikode district, seven from Wayanad district, 134 in Kannur district and 193 from Kasaragod district.

So far, 45,858 persons have been cured of Covid in the State and at present, 23,111 patients are still undergoing treatment.

There are a total of 1,94,431 people under observation in various districts of the state, 1,75,306 in home or institutional quarantine and 19,125 in hospitals. 2,541 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

41,860 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 16,08,013 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,75,094 samples from high priority groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.

Today, 30 new places were demarcated as hotspots while 34 were excluded. Now there are 599 hotspots in Kerala.
