Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 07: 1,648 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala today while 2,246 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered. 1,495 cases are local transmission and the source of infection was unknown in 112. 29 cases are returnees from overseas and 54 from other states. 61 healthcare workers were also infected.
12 recent deaths in the State were confirmed as due to Covid taking the death toll to 359. Devaraj (65), Damayanthi (54), Khalid (48), Harindrababu (63), Shanthakumari (68), Safia Beevi (68) & Nabeesath Beevi (41) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Augustine (78) from Ernakulam district, Baby Paul (73) from Thrissur district and Mohanan Unni Nair (54), Abdurahman (65) & Yusuf (68) from Kozhikode district are the deceased. Further deaths will be confirmed after tests at NIV, Alappuzha.
The district-wise numbers of the new active cases are 260 in Kannur district, 253 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 187 in Malappuram district, 154 from Kottayam district, 134 in Kasaragod district, 130 from Ernakulam district, 128 in Thrissur district, 118 from Palakkad district, 103 in Kozhikode district. 78 from Alappuzha district, 71 in Kollam district, 24 from Pathanamthitta district and four each in Idukki and Wayanad districts.
The details of the contact cases are 213 from Kannur district, 237 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 183 from Malappuram district, 149 from Kottayam district, 120 from Thrissur district, 114 from Ernakulam district, 108 from Palakkad district, 103 from Kasargod district, 98 from Kozhikode district, 77 from Alappuzha district, 67 from Kollam district, 21 in Pathanamthitta district, three from Idukki district and two in Wayanad district.
The infected healthcare workers are 30 in Kannur district, 11 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 10 in Kasaragod district, five in Thrissur district, three in Pathanamthitta district and two in Ernakulam district.
614 patients in Thiruvananthapuram district, 131 from Kollam district, 123 in Pathanamthitta district, 132 from Alappuzha district, 115 in Kottayam district, 32 from Idukki district, 184 in Ernakulam district, 155 from Thrissur district, 95 in Palakkad district, 202 from Malappuram district, 278 in Kozhikode district, 20 from Wayanad district, 70 in Kannur district and 95 from Kasaragod district are those who tested negative today.
22,066 patients are still undergoing treatment while a total of 67,001 people have so far been cured of Covid in the State.
There are 2,00,651 people under quarantine in various districts of the state, 1,82,521 under home or institutional quarantine and 18,130 in hospitals. 2,385 persons were admitted to the hospital today.
20,215 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 18,91,703 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,84,020 samples from high exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
26 new places were declared as hotspots today and eight were excluded. There are currently 575 hotspots in Kerala.
