Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan has said that 14 government school buildings will be completed at a cost of Rs 3 crores as part of the 100-day action plan announced recently. He said this while inaugurating 34 higher secondary school buildings in various constituencies in the state through video conference. These schools were developed as part of the State Government’s ambitious plans to turn one school in each assembly constituency into a centre of excellence.
During his address, the Chief Minister said, “Rs 3,129 crores has been set aside for infrastructure development of schools and the construction of 250 new school buildings will begin soon. Infrastructure is being developed in more than 350 schools using plan funds. Centres of excellence would be set up in all constituencies without any bias.”
Infrastructure development activities of Rs 5 crores each are being implemented in 141 schools with KIIFB funding. In many constituencies, KIIFB has given more than Rs 5 crores to MLAs. These schools have 7.55 lakh sq ft of high-tech classrooms, kitchen blocks, dining halls, toilet blocks, laboratories and auditoriums. Schools in 34 constituencies across ten districts were inaugurated by the CM.
The CM also added that the ongoing online mode of education started during the Covid season was successful and through this, Kerala set an example for others. He also cautioned the public not to fall for the propaganda being spread on social media about the schools that were being inaugurated. New buildings have been set up for 19 schools from Balaramapuram to Chelakkare across the State.
Minister of Public Instruction, Prof. C Ravindranath presided the function. Other Ministers, General Education Secretary, A Shahjahan IAS; Director General of Education, K S Jeevanbabu IAS and Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE were among those present for the online function. MLAs from the respective constituencies attended the function live from the respective schools through video conferencing.
