Thiruvananthapuram, June 19: Kerala today reported its highest number of 118 new Covid-19 cases as well as the highest number of 96 recoveries, on a single day. This was informed by the Minister for Health & Social Justice, Smt K K Shailaja.

18 persons from Malappuram district, 17 in Kollam district, 13 from Alappuzha district, 11 in Ernakulam district, 10 from Palakkad district, nine in Pathanamthitta district, eight each from Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur districts, seven in Kottayam district, six from Kozhikode district, four each in Wayanad and Kasargod districts, two from Idukki district and one in Thrissur district are those who were confirmed with Coronavirus infection.

Of the newly diagnosed cases, 67 people have returned from abroad (Kuwait-35, UAE-14, Saudi Arabia-10, Oman-3, Russia-2, Qatar-1, Tajikistan-1 & Kazakhstan-1) while 45 have come back from other States (Maharashtra-16, Delhi-9, Tamil Nadu-8, Karnataka-5, Assam-2, Haryana-2, Andhra Pradesh-2 &Telangana-1). Six persons have got infected through primary contact, three in Thiruvananthapuram district and one each from Kannur, Kottayam and Wayanad districts.

21 patients from Kannur district, 15 in Malappuram district, 14 each from Kollam and Palakkad districts, 12 in Thrissur district, seven from Kottayam district, four in Alappuzha district, three each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Kasargod districts are those who tested negative today. So far, 1,509 patients have been cured of Covid in the State and 1,380 patients are still under treatment for the same.

Presently, a total of 1,32,569 people are under observation in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,30,655 are under surveillance at home or institutional quarantine and 1,914 are isolated in hospitals. 197 people were hospitalised today.

In the last 24 hours, 4,889 samples were tested. So far, samples of 1,30,358 individuals have been sent for testing. Of these, the results of 3,186 samples are awaited. In addition, 36,051 samples were collected from priority groups, such as health workers, migrant workers, and people with high social contacts as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 34,416 samples were negative. Till now, a total of 1,73,729 samples have been sent for testing.

Seven new places in Kannur district were declared as hotspots today while three places were exempted from the list.
