Thiruvananthapuram, July 04: Kerala today reported its highest single-day count of 240 new positive cases as the Minister for health, Smt K K Shailaja informed the recovery of 209 patients also, the highest number of recoveries on any day in the State so far.

37 person from Malappuram district, 35 in Kannur district, 29 from Palakkad district, 22 in Pathanamthitta district, 20 each from Alappuzha and Thrissur districts, 16 each in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, 14 from Kasargod district, 13 in Ernakulam district, eight from Kozhikode district, six in Kottayam district and two each from Idukki and Wayanad districts are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.

Of those diagnosed today, 152 are returnees from foreign countries (Saudi Arabia 52, UAE 42, Kuwait 32, Oman 11, Qatar 10, Mozambique 1, Moldova 1, Nigeria 1, South Africa 1 & Ivory Coast 1) and 52 have arrived from other States (Karnataka 20, Tamil Nadu 12, Maharashtra 7, Delhi 6, Telangana 5, Uttar Pradesh 1 & Jammu Kashmir 1).

17 people have got infected through contact – five in Ernakulam district, four from Thiruvananthapuram district, three in Thrissur district, two each from Kollam and Alappuzha districts, and one in Malappuram district. In addition, 11 Defence Canteen employees and four CISF personnel in Kannur district and four BSF personnel in Thrissur district have also been infected.

44 patients in Palakkad district, 38 from Kollam district, 36 in Alappuzha district, 20 from Pathanamthitta district, 16 in Kannur district, 15 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 10 in Thrissur district, nine from Kottayam District, seven from Ernakulam district, six each in Malappuram and Kasargod district and two from Idukki district are those with negative test results. So far, 3,048 people have been cured of Covid and 2,129 patients are still undergoing treatment for the infection in Kerala.

Currently, there are 1,77,759 people under quarantine in different districts across the state even as 10,295 persons were excluded from surveillance today. 1,74,844 were in home or institutional quarantine and 2,915 were in isolation hospitals. 367 people were hospitalised today.

In the last 24 hours, 7,219 samples were tested. A total of 2,60,011 samples have been sent for testing and out of these, the results of 5,092 samples are expected. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 56,226 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers, those with high social contacts and 53,692 samples were negative.

Today, 13 new places were designated as hotspots while seven have been excluded from the list. Presently there are 135 hotspots in Kerala.
