Thiruvananthapuram, July 05: Minister for Health and Social Justice, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 225 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today while 126 patients under treatment for the same have recovered.

29 persons from Palakkad district, 28 in Kasargod district, 27 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 26 in Malappuram district, 25 from Kannur district, 20 in Kozhikode district, 13 from Alappuzha district, 12 each in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, 10 from Kollam district, eight in Kottayam district, six each from Idukki and Wayanad districts, and three in Pathanamthitta district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.

117 of those diagnosed today have come back from foreign countries (Saudi Arabia-35, UAE-30, Kuwait-21, Qatar-17, Oman-9, Bahrain-4 & Russia-1) and 57 from other states (Karnataka-24, Delhi-12, Tamil Nadu-10, Maharashtra-8, Telangana-2 & Haryana-1).

38 are cases of local transmission. 22 people in Thiruvananthapuram district, five from Kozhikode district, four in Kasargod district, three from Ernakulam district, two in Malappuram district and one each from Kollam and Alappuzha districts are those who got infected through contact. In addition, seven Defence Canteen employees and two CISF personnel in Kannur district, two BSF personnel in Thrissur district and two ship crew members were also infected.

Meanwhile, the test results 31 patients from Kollam district, 28 in Malappuram district, 12 from Thrissur district, 11 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 10 each from Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts, seven in Palakkad district, six from Wayanad district, five in Kozhikode district and three each from Kottayam and Kannur districts, were negative today. Till now, 3,174 persons have recovered from Covid and 2,228 patients are presently under treatment in the State.

A total of 1,80,939 people are currently under surveillance in various districts of the state. 1,77,995 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 2,944 are isolated in hospitals. 377 people were admitted to hospitals today.

During the last 24 hours, 7,461 samples were tested. So far, a total of 2,68,218 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 5,881 samples are awaited. In addition, 58,728 samples were collected from high-risk priority groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 56,374 samples have been confirmed with no infection.

24 new places were declared as hotspots today as six places have been exempted from the list. This takes the total number of hotspots in Kerala to 153.
