Thiruvananthapuram, July 10:  Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan informed that 416 new positive cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today even as 112 patients under treatment have recovered from the same. 204 are cases of local transmission while 123 are those who came back from foreign countries and 51 from other states.

Sharing his concern at the rising number of cases through contact, the Chief Minister said, “It is a day when the number of people infected through contact has increased more than the number of people coming from outside. This is a dangerous situation where contact cases are increasing especially cases without known sources of infection. There is no community spread yet but super spread which is a step towards community spread.”

129 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 50 in Alappuzha district, 41from Malappuram district, 32 in Pathanamthitta district, 28 each from Kollam and Palakkad districts, 23 in Kannur district, 20 from Ernakulam district, 17 each in Thrissur and Kasargod districts, 12 each from Kozhikode and Idukki districts, and seven from Kottayam district were those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.

The country-wise details of those infected are UAE-58, Kuwait-20, Saudi Arabia-20, Qatar-13, Oman-5, Bahrain-3, UK-1, Kyrgyzstan-1, Taiwan-1 and Africa-1. The state-wise split up is Karnataka-22, Maharashtra-8, Tamil Nadu-6, Delhi-4, Telangana-3, West Bengal-2, Rajasthan-2, Uttar Pradesh-2, Bihar-1 and Madhya Pradesh-1.

122 persons in Thiruvananthapuram district, 21 from Malappuram district, 15 each in Kollam and Ernakulam districts, 11 from Kasargod district, seven in Kozhikode district, five from Pathanamthitta district, four in Alappuzha district, two from Idukki district and one each in Kottayam and Thrissur districts are those infected through contact. In addition, 35 ITBP personnel in Alappuzha district, two BSF personnel in Thrissur district and a CISF personnel in Kannur district were also infected.

24 patients from Alappuzha district, 19 in Thrissur district, 18 from Malappuram district, 14 in Kannur district, nine from Kottayam district, eight in Palakkad district, five from Thiruvananthapuram district, four each in Idukki, Ernakulam and Wayanad districts, and three from Kasargod district, are those who tested negative today. Presently, 3,099 patients are undergoing treatment for Covid.

A total of 1,84,112 people are under surveillance in various districts of the state. 1,80,595 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 3,517 are in isolation at hospitals. 472 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

In the last 24 hours, 11,693 samples were tested. A total of 3,20,485 samples have been sent for testing so far and out of these, the results of 4,525 samples are awaited. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 70,122 samples were collected from priority groups with more public exposure and 66,132 samples were negative.

Today 14 new hotspots were announced as one was excluded from the list. There are currently 194 hotspots in the State.
