30 new hotspots, total 222

Thiruvananthapuram, July 12: Minister for Health & Social Justice, Smt K K Shailaja informed that 435 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. Of the cases detected today, 206 are infected through contact, 128 are returnees from foreign countries and 87 from other states. At the same time, 132 patients under treatment have recovered today.

59 persons from Palakkad district, 57 in Alappuzha district, 56 from Kasargod district, 50 in Ernakulam district, 42 from Malappuram district, 40 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 39 from Pathanamthitta district and 19 each in Thrissur and Wayanad districts, 17 from Kannur district, 16 in Idukki district, 12 from Kottayam district, five in Kollam district and four from Kozhikode district are those who tested positive today for Coronavirus.

The positive results of the re-tests of Valsala (63) who died on July 5 in Thrissur district and Babu (52) who died on July 7 in Alappuzha district, are also included in today’s count.

The district-wise details of the contact cases are 41 each in Ernakulam and Kasargod districts, 35 in Alappuzha district, 31 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 24 in Pathanamthitta district, 17 in Malappuram district, six in Kottayam district, five in Kollam district, four in Thrissur district and one each in Idukki and Palakkad districts.

Ten healthcare workers were also infected – four in Alappuzha district, two in Thiruvananthapuram district and one each in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Ernakulam Kasargod districts. In addition, a DSC employee and a CISF personnel in Kannur district have also got infected.

The district-wise figures of those under treatment and tested negative are 24 patients from Pathanamthitta district, 22 in Kannur district, 20 from Thrissur district, 18 in Kozhikode district, 16 from Palakkad district, 15 in Malappuram district, seven from Kasargod district, five in Ernakulam district, three from Thiruvananthapuram district, and one each from Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.

So far, 4,097 people have been cured of Covid and 3,743 patients are still undergoing treatment in the State.

Currently, there are a total of 1,81,784 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. 1,77,794 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 3,990 are in isolation in hospitals. 633 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

Meanwhile, the numbers of tests being conducted have increased. In the last 24 hours, 13,478 samples were analysed. A total of 3,47,529 samples have so far been sent for testing and of these, the results of 5,944 samples are expected. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 76,075 samples were collected from priority groups, such as health workers, guest workers, social contacts, and 72,070 samples were negative.

Today, 30 new places were declared as hotspots while three were exempted taking the total number of hotspots in the State to 222.
