Thiruvananthapuram, July 28: Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan informed that 1,167 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today while 679 patients under treatment have recovered from the disease. 888 are cases of local transmission and in 55 cases; the source of infection is unknown. 122 cases are those who came back from abroad and 96 from other states. 33 healthcare workers were also infected.

Meanwhile, four deaths were reported taking the Covid related death toll in the State to 67. The Chief Minister condoled the deaths of Abu Baker (72) of Ernakulam district, Abdul Rahman (70) of Kasaragod district, Sainuddin (65) of Alappuzha district and Selvamani (65) of Thiruvananthapuram district.

The new positive cases were reported in 222 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 118 in Kottayam district, 112 from Malappuram district, 109 in Thrissur district, 95 from Kollam district, 86 in Palakkad district, 84 from Alappuzha district, 70 in Ernakulam district, 67 from Kozhikode district, 63 in Pathanamthitta district, 53 from Wayanad district, 43 in Kannur district, 38 from Kasaragod district and seven in Idukki district.

The district-wise figures of the contact cases are 199 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 113 from Kottayam district, 88 in Malappuram district, 77 from Kollam district, 64 in Alappuzha district, 61 from Ernakulam district, 58 in Thrissur district, 50 from Kozhikode district, 42 in Wayanad district, 36 each from Pathanamthitta, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts, 21 in Kannur district and seven from Idukki district.

18 infected healthcare workers are in Thiruvananthapuram district, three each are from Kottayam, Malappuram and Kannur districts, two each in Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts, and one each from Kollam and Kasaragod districts. 11 KSE employees, nine KLF employees and a BSF personnel in Thrissur district and seven employees of Malabar Trading Company in Wayanad district were also infected by Coronavirus.

The district-wise figures of the patients whose test results were negative today are 170 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 83 from Ernakulam district, 80 in Alappuzha district, 70 from Kollam district, 45 in Thrissur district, 40 from Palakkad district, 36 in Kasargod district, 34 from Malappuram district, 28 in Pathanamthitta district, 27 from Idukki district, 20 in Kottayam district, 18 from Wayanad district, 15 in Kannur district and 13 from Kozhikode district.

So far, 10,728 people have been cured of Covid and at present, 10,093 patients diagnosed with the disease are still undergoing treatment.

1,50,716 persons are currently under surveillance in various districts of the state. 1,40,898 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 9,818 are in isolation in hospitals. 1,343 people were admitted to the hospital today.

19,140 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 7,09,348 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 6,596 samples are yet to come. Of the 1,16,418 samples collected from high exposure groups part of Sentinel Surveillance, 1,13,073 samples were negative.

17 new places in the State were designated as hotspots and 25 were exempted. Presently there are 486 hotspots.
