Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 01: Minister for Health & Social Justice, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 1,129 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. At the same time 752 patients have recovered from the disease.

Of the cases detected, today 880 are cases of local transmission and the source of infection of 58 patients is unknown. 89 are returnees from foreign countries and 114 from other states. Eight Covid related deaths were reported taking the total tally in the state to 81.

259 persons in Thiruvananthapuram district, 153 in Kasaragod district, 141 in Malappuram district, 95 in Kozhikode district, 85 in Pathanamthitta district, 76 in Thrissur district, 67 in Alappuzha district, 59 in Ernakulam district, 47 each in Kottayam and Palakkad districts, 46 in Wayanad district, 35 from Kollam district, 14 from Idukki district and five from Kannur district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today. This includes the test results of two persons who died in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur districts.

Koyamu (82) from Malappuram district, Ashraf (52) and Angel (81) from Ernakulam district, Abdul Rahman (72) from Kasaragod district, Babu (62) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Noushad (49) from Kozhikode district, Asuma Beevi (73) of Kollam district and Chandran (59) from Thrissur are the deceased.

The district-wise figures of those infected through contact are 241 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 151 in Kasaragod district, 83 in Malappuram district, 80 in Kozhikode district, 61 in Pathanamthitta district, 52 in Alappuzha district, 44 in Wayanad district, 38 in Kottayam district, 35 in Thrissur district, 33 in Ernakulam district, 26 in Palakkad district, 27 in Kollam district, seven in Idukki district and two in Kannur district.

24 healthcare workers were also infected – 14 in Thiruvananthapuram district, two from Kozhikode district, one each in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kannur districts. 11 KSE employees and five KLF employees and four INHS personnel in Ernakulam District were also among those infected by the virus.

168 patients from Thiruvananthapuram district, 100 from Alappuzha district, 58 from Pathanamthitta district, 57 from Kottayam district, 54 from Thrissur district, 53 from Kollam district, 49 from Kozhikode district, 42 from Palakkad district, 36 in Malappuram district, 35 each from Ernakulam and Kannur districts, 32 from Idukki district, 28 from Kasaragod district and five in Wayanad district are those who recovered from the disease. So far, 13,779 people have been cured of Covid and 10,862 patients are now undergoing treatment.

There are 1,43,996 people under surveillance in various districts of the state, 1,33,616 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 10,380 are in hospitals. 1,257 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

20,518 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 7,95,919 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 5,971 samples are yet to come. As part of the Sentinel Surveillance, 1,24,653 samples were collected from high-risk groups and the results of 1,842 results are expected.

17 new hotspots were declared today while 23 were exempted. There are 492 hotspots in the state now.
