Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 02: Covid-19 was confirmed in 1,169 people in Kerala today while 688 patients under treatment for the same have been cured of the disease. Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja informed that of the cases detected today, 991 were cases of infection through contact and the contact source of 56 was not traceable. 43 cases are in those who arrived from overseas and 95 from other states.

Today, the death of 68-year-old Vijayalakshmi from Thiruvananthapuram district was reported taking the Covid related death toll in the State to 82.

377 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 128 in Ernakulam district, 126 from Malappuram district, 113 in Kasaragod district, 70 from Kottayam district, 69 in Kollam district, 58 from Thrissur district, 50 in Kozhikode district, 42 from Idukki district, 38 each in Alappuzha and Palakkad districts, 25 from Pathanamthitta district, 19 in Wayanad district and 16 from Kannur district were diagnosed with the disease today.

The district-wise figures of local transmission are 363 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 113 in Malappuram district, 110 in Kasaragod district, 79 in Ernakulam district, 70 in Kottayam district, 51 in Kollam district, 40 in Thrissur district, 39 in Kozhikode district, 36 in Palakkad district, 24 in Alappuzha district, 23 in Idukki district, 18 each in Pathanamthitta and Wayanad districts, and seven in Kannur district.

29 healthcare workers have also been infected with Coronavirus – 11 in Thiruvananthapuram district, seven in Ernakulam district, five in Kannur district, four in Malappuram district, and one each in Pathanamthitta and Wayanad districts. 10 KSE employees and a KLF employee in Thrissur District are among those infected.

The patients who tested negative today are 168 from Kollam district, 93 in Kozhikode district, 66 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 63 in Thrissur district, 55 from Kannur district, 44 in Malappuram district, 39 from Kottayam district, 37 in Ernakulam district, 30 each from Idukki and Kasargod districts, 29 in Palakkad district, 19 from Wayanad district and 15 in Alappuzha district.

So far, 14,467 people have recovered from Covid in the State and at present, 11,342 patients are undergoing treatment for the virus infection.

1,45,777 persons are under observation across the state, 1,35,173 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 10,604 in hospitals. 1,363 people were hospitalised today.

22,028 samples were analysed in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 8,17,078 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 5,215 samples are awaited. 1,26,042 samples were collected from high exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance and the results of 1,541 samples are yet to come.

Today, 30 new places were designated as hotspots while 25 were removed from the list. Currently, there are 497 hotspots in Kerala.
