Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 06: 1,298 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Kerala today, the highest number of new positive cases being reported in a single day so far. Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja informed that 1,017 persons were infected through contact and the contact source of 76 cases is unknown. 78 have arrived from overseas and 170 from other states.

There were three Covid related deaths in the State taking the death toll to 97 – Khadeeja (51) and Shaharbanu (73) from Kasargod district, and Silva Adimai (63) from Thiruvananthapuram district. Further deaths will be confirmed after tests at NIV, Alappuzha.

219 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 174 in Kozhikode district, 153 from Kasaragod district, 136 in Palakkad district, 129 from Malappuram district, 99 in Alappuzha district, 74 from Thrissur district, 73 in Ernakulam district, 58 from Idukki district, 46 in Wayanad district, 40 from Kottayam district, 33 each in Pathanamthitta and Kannur districts and 31 from Kollam district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.

The district-wise figures of local transmission are 210 cases in Thiruvananthapuram district, 139 in Kasaragod district, 128 in Kozhikode district, 109 in Malappuram district, 94 in Alappuzha district, 62 in Thrissur district, 61 in Palakkad district, 54 in Ernakulam district, 44 in Wayanad district, 36 in Kottayam district, 23 each in Kollam, Idukki and Kannur districts and 11 in Pathanamthitta district.

29 healthcare workers were also infected by the disease, eight in Kasaragod district, seven in Thiruvananthapuram district, five in Kozhikode district, three in Ernakulam district, two in Wayanad district, one each in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Kannur districts. Three KSE employees in Thrissur District and an INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were among those infected.

146 patients from Ernakulam district, 137 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 114 from Malappuram district, 61 in Kasaragod district, 54 from Kottayam district, 49 in Kollam district, 48 from Thrissur district, 46 in Pathanamthitta district,  41 from Palakkad district, 30 in Alappuzha district, 20 each from Idukki and Wayanad districts, 18 in Kannur district and 16 from Kozhikode district are those who tested negative today.

Till now, 18,337 Covid infected people have been cured in the State and 11,983 patients are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

There are currently 1,48,039 people under observation across the state, 1,36,602 at their home or institutional quarantine centres and 11,437 in hospitals. 1,390 persons were hospitalised today.

25,205 samples were analysed during the last 24 hours. A total of 9,08,355 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 6,346 samples are yet to come. As part of the Sentinel Surveillance, 1,32,306 samples collected from high public exposure groups and the results of 1,615 samples are still awaited.

There are 12 new hotspots while 16 were exempted taking the total number of hotspots in the State to 511.
