Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 09: Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that Covid-19 has been confirmed in 1,211 people in Kerala today while 970 persons have recovered from the disease. 1,026 are cases of local transmission and the contact source of 103 is not traceable. 76 cases are returnees from foreign countries and 78 from other states.

Two Covid related deaths were also reported taking the death toll to 108. NIV, Alappuzha has confirmed that Abdul Khader (67) from Kasaragod district who died on August 04 and K V Rafi (64) from Ernakulam district who died on August 06 were infected with Covid-19. Further deaths will be established after testing.

292 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 170 in Malappuram district, 139 from Kottayam district, 110 in Alappuzha district, 106 from Kollam district, 78 in Palakkad district, 69 from Kozhikode district, 56 in Kasaragod district, 54 from Ernakulam district, 41 in Kannur district, 30 from Pathanamthitta district, 25 in Wayanad district, 24 from Thrissur district and 17 in Idukki district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.

The district-wise figures of those infected through contact are 281 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 145 in Malappuram district, 115 in Kottayam district, 99 in Alappuzha district, 88 in Kollam district, 56 in Kozhikode district, 49 each in Palakkad and Kasargod districts, 48 in Ernakulam district, 28 in Kannur district, 24 in Wayanad district, 17 in Thrissur district, 14 in Idukki district and 13 in Pathanamthitta district.

27 healthcare workers were also infected by the disease – five in Thrissur district, four each in Kollam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts, three in Thiruvananthapuram district, two each in Palakkad and Kannur districts, and one each in Malappuram, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts. One Air India Express cabin crew member in Malappuram district, two DSC personnel in Kannur district and an INHS personnel in Ernakulam district are among those infected.

138 patients from Ernakulam district, 116 in Pathanamthitta district, 115 from Kasaragod district, 109 in Malappuram district, 101 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 80 in Palakkad district, 57 from Thrissur district, 56 in Kottayam district, 48 from Wayanad district, 43 in Kollam district, 35 from Alappuzha district, 31 in Idukki district, 30 from Kozhikode district and 11 in Kannur district were those who tested negative today.

So far, 21,836 people have been freed cured from Coronavirus infection and presently, 12,347 patients diagnosed with the disease are still under treatment.

There are currently 1,49,357 people under observation in various districts of the state, 1,37,615 in home or institutional quarantine and 11,742 in hospitals. 1,278 persons were hospitalised today.

22,745 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 9,84,208 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 4,989 samples are yet to come. As part of the Sentinel Surveillance, 1,37,683 samples were collected from priority groups, including health workers, guest workers, and individuals with greater social contact and the testing of 1,193 samples are in process.

There has been an increase in the total number of hotspots in the State to 524 as 34 new places were demarcated as hotspots while eight were excluded.
