17 new hotspots, total 624

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 24: Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 1,242 new active cases of Covid-19 has been confirmed in Kerala today. At the same time, 1,238 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered and were discharged from the hospitals today.

 

Of those diagnosed today, 1,081 are cases of local transmission and source of infection in 95 cases was not traceable. 39 are those who arrived from foreign countries and 88 from other states. 34 healthcare workers were also infected by Coronavirus.

11 recent deaths have been confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll in the State to 234. Mohanan (71), Leela (60) & Isaac Sheikh (71) from Kasaragod district; A M Mukundan (81) from Ernakulam district, Ilyas (47) from Malappuram district, Maria John (80) from Tirunelveli district,
Varadan (71) & Libis (70) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Saramma (74) & Shaheer Kutty (50) from Kollam district and T N Chandran (74) from Kottayam district are the deceased. More deaths will be confirmed after subsequent tests at NIV, Alappuzha.

182 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 169 in Malappuram district, 165 from Ernakulam district, 118 in Kasaragod district, 112 from Kollam district, 99 in Palakkad district, 89 from Kottayam district, 81 in Kozhikode district, 76 from Kannur district. 60 in Alappuzha district, 46 from Thrissur district, 20 in Wayanad district, 19 from Idukki district and six in Pathanamthitta district are those who tested positive today.

The district-wise details of those infected through contact are 158 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 154 each in Malappuram and Ernakulam districts, 101 from Kasargod district, 94 in Kollam district, 71 from Palakkad district, 86 in Kottayam district, 66 from Kozhikode district, 65 in Kannur district. 55 from Alappuzha district, 42 in Thrissur district, 18 from Wayanad district, 11 in Idukki district and six from Pathanamthitta district.

The numbers of infected healthcare workers are 17 in Thiruvananthapuram district, six in Ernakulam district, four in Malappuram district, three in Kozhikode district, two in Kasargod district and one each in Alappuzha and Palakkad districts.

The patients who tested negative today are 170 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 53 in Kollam district, 31 from Pathanamthitta district, 150 in Alappuzha district, 63 from Kottayam district, 48 in Idukki district, 142 from Ernakulam district, 62 in Thrissur district, 120 from Palakkad district, 116 in Malappuram district, 130 from Kozhikode district, 25 in Wayanad district, 45 from Kannur district and 83 in Kasaragod district.

So far, 38,887 people have cured of Covid and 20,323 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the State.

There are a total of 1,83,448 people under observation in various districts of the state, 1,66,411 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 17,037 in hospitals. 1,877 people were admitted to the hospital.

During the last 24 hours, 26,186 samples were analysed. So far, a total of 14,46,380 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,64,443 samples from high-risk groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.

17 new places were designated as hotspots today while 15 were excluded from the list. There are now 624 hotspots in Kerala.
