Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 02:Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that Covid-19 was confirmed in 1,547 persons in Kerala today. 1,419 of those diagnosed today were infected through contact and the source was not traceable in 156 cases. 21 of them have come back from foreign countries and 65 from other states. 36 healthcare workers were also infected.
At the same time, 2,129 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered and were discharged from hospitals today. This is the second consecutive day when the number of recovered patients is more than the number of new active cases.
Meanwhile, seven recent deaths in the State were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll to 305. The deceased are Aboobacker (60) from Kasargod district; Omanakuttan (63), Silvamma (80) & Balachandran Nair (63) from Thiruvananthapuram district; and Nabeesa Beeran (75), Baby George (60) & Sadanandan (57) from Ernakulam district. Further deaths will be confirmed after subsequent tests at NIV, Alappuzha.
The district-wise figures for the positive cases are 228 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 204 from Kozhikode district, 159 in Alappuzha district, 146 from Malappuram district, 145 in Kottayam district, 142 from Kannur district, 136 in Ernakulam district, 121 from Thrissur district, 88 in Kasaragod district, 81 from Kollam district, 38 in Wayanad district, 30 from Palakkad district, 17 in Pathanamthitta district and 12 from Idukki district.
The details of the contact cases are 211 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 196 from Kozhikode district, 143 in Kottayam district, 134 from Malappuram district, 131 in Alappuzha district, 122 from Ernakulam district, 121 in Kannur district, 116 from Thrissur district, 85 in Kasaragod district, 77 from Kollam district, 31 in Wayanad district, 24 from Palakkad district, 16 in Pathanamthitta district and 12 from Idukki district.
16 healthcare workers in Thiruvananthapuram district, five in Malappuram district, three each in Ernakulam and Kannur districts, two each in Kollam, Alappuzha and Thrissur districts, and one each in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts were those infected. Six INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were among those infected by Coronavirus.
The number of patients who tested negative today is 402 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 85 from Kollam district, 112 in Pathanamthitta district, 288 from Alappuzha district, 69 in Kottayam district, 42 from Idukki district, 119 in Ernakulam district, 100 from Thrissur district, 98 in Palakkad district, 317 from Malappuram district, 194 in Kozhikode district, 26 from Wayanad district, 127 in Kannur district and 150 from Kasaragod district.
So far, 55,782 persons have been cured of Covid in the State while 21,923 patients are still undergoing treatment.
There are currently 1,93,736 people under observation in various districts of the state, 1,75,382 at their homes or in institutional quarantine centres and 18,354 in hospitals. 1,439 people were admitted to the hospital today.
23,850 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 17,24,658 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,79,862 samples from high exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
There are 13 new hotspots today while 17 places were exempted. There are presently 577 hotspots in Kerala.
