Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 04: Covid-19 was confirmed in 8,553 persons Kerala today as per the Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja. 7,527 people were infected through contact and the source of infection was not traceable in 716 cases. 99 healthcare workers were among those infected. 30 of those detected with the disease have arrived from foreign countries and 181, from other states. At the same time, 4,851patients under treatment have recovered from Coronavirus infection today. This is the highest number of recoveries to be reported on any single day.
Meanwhile, 23 recent deaths in the State were confirmed as due to Covid taking the death toll to 836. Krishnan Nair (83), Ashokan (75), Josephine Franklin (72), Rajayyan (80), Robert (53), Jayanthi (50), Annachi Perumal Achari (90) & Devaraj (55) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Devarajan (63) from Kollam district; Abdul Samad (62), Safia Beevi (67), Mariakutty (68) & Rosamma (59) from Alappuzha district, Nakulan (62) & Rosy Joseph (89) from Ernakulam district, Chammini (63) from Palakkad district; Hasbulla (68), Muhammad (58), Kunjimoideen Haji (87), Biriyakutty (77), Fathima (83) & Mohammad Ali (50) from Malappuram district and Mohammad Kunhi (68) from Kannur district, are the deceased.
The district-wise figures for the new positive cases are Kozhikode 1,164, Thiruvananthapuram 1,119, Ernakulam 952, Kollam 866, Thrissur 793, Malappuram 792, Kannur 555, Alappuzha 544, Palakkad 496, Kottayam 474, Pathanamthitta 315, Kasargod 278, Wayanad 109 and Idukki 96.
The numbers for the contact cases from the districts are Kozhikode 1,081, Thiruvananthapuram 943, Ernakulam 819, Kollam 843, Thrissur 791, Malappuram 721, Alappuzha 520, Kottayam 466, Kannur 359, Palakkad 328, Kasaragod 270, Pathanamthitta 220, Wayanad 102 and Idukki 64.
The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 27, Thiruvananthapuram 21, Ernakulam 14, Kollam 12, Kozhikode 11, Kottayam 4, Malappuram 3, Pathanamthitta 2, and Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad & Kasaragod 1 each.
The district-wise tally of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 880, Kollam 400, Pathanamthitta 167, Alappuzha 608, Kottayam 318, Idukki 80, Ernakulam 405, Thrissur 260, Palakkad 217, Malappuram 715, Kozhikode 402, Wayanad 97, Kannur 109 and Kasaragod 193.
At present, there are 84,497 patients undergoing treatment for Covid in the State even as a total of 1,44,471 people have so far recovered from the disease.
There are a total of 2,57,707 persons under observation across the state, 2,26,536 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 31,171 in hospitals. 3,398 people were admitted to the hospitals today.
58,727 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 31,64,072 samples have been sent for testing, including 2,08,027 samples from high public exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
Seven new places were declared as hotspots today while five were excluded from the list. There are 725 hotspots in Kerala now.
