Thiruvananthapuram, July 03: Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan today informed that 211 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today, the highest number of cases to be reported on a single day, while 201 patients under treatment for the same have recovered. Of those infected, 138 persons have come back from overseas, 39 from other States and 27 are cases of local transmission. In addition, six CISF personnel and one cabin crew member (in Kannur district) were also infected.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said, “This is the first time the number of new active cases in the State has gone above 200 on a single day. There is an increase in the number of cases in all the 14 districts including cities and villages. There is an increase in the number of cases through contact also but there is no community spread yet in the State. There are few cases where the source of infection is unknown and this is a matter of concern. The number of tests being conducted will be ramped up.”

The number of new cases district-wise are 35 in Malappuram district, 23 from Kollam district, 21 each in Alappuzha and Thrissur districts, 18 from Kannur district, 17 each in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam district, 14 each from Kottayam, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts, seven each in Pathanamthitta and Kasargod districts, two from Idukki district and one in Wayanad district.

The number of infected persons country-wise is UAE-49, Saudi Arabia-45, Kuwait-19, Qatar-10, Oman-10, Bahrain-2, Ivory Coast-1, Kazakhstan-1 & Nigeria-1 and state-wise are Delhi-9, Maharashtra-7, Karnataka-7, Tamil Nadu-6, Telangana-4, Jammu & Kashmir-3, Chhattisgarh-1, Madhya Pradesh-1 and Jharkhand-1.

12 people from Alappuzha district, four in Ernakulam district, three each from Thiruvananthapuram and Malappuram districts, two each in Palakkad and Kozhikode districts, and one in Thrissur district are those infected through contact.

68 patients in Palakkad district, 29 from Pathanamthitta district, 20 in Ernakulam district, 16 from Kottayam district, 13 in Kannur district, 12 from Kasargod district, 11 in Kozhikode district, 10 each from Malappuram and Wayanad districts, five each in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur districts and 2 from Alappuzha districts are those who were undergoing treatment for Coronavirus and their test results were negative today.

The total number of Covid cases confirmed in Kerala is 4,964 and 2,098 patients are still under treatment for the infection.

1,77,011 people are under observation in different districts in the state, 1,74,117 in their home or institutional quarantine and 2,894 isolated at hospitals. 10,813 people were excluded from quarantine while 378 people were admitted to the hospital today.

In the last 24 hours, 7,306 samples were tested. A total of 2,53,011 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 4,834 samples are yet to come. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 53,922 samples were collected from high risk groups and 51,840 samples were negative.

Today, 10 new places were declared as hotspots even as three were excluded. There are 130 hotspots now in the State.
