Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 11: Covid-19 was confirmed in 9,347 persons in Kerala today while 8,924 patients have recovered from the disease. This is the highest single-day number of recoveries so far. 8,216 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection for 821 was unknown. 105 healthcare workers were among those infected through contact.
Meanwhile, 25 recent deaths were confirmed as due to Covid taking the number of related deaths in the State to 1,003. The deceased are Meenakumari (68) & Peerumuhammed (84) from Thiruvananthapuram district; Cletus (70), Appukuttan Pillai (81) & Kuttiamma (63) from Kollam district; Emmanuel (77), Beevikunju (72), Abdul Jalil (59) & Sharda (80) from Alappuzha district, Abdul Khader (80) & Kuttappan Achari (70) from Kottayam district; Velappan (84), George (61) & Azeez (84) from Thrissur district; Sreedharan (68), Raghavan Nair (72), Kunjumon Haji (70), Kunjimuhammed (64) & Syed Mohammad (52) from Malappuram district, Ibrahim (75) & Gopalan (65) from Kozhikode district, Kannan (77) & Johnny Jimmy (13) from Kannur district, and Damodaran (63) & Nafisa (58) from Kasargod district.
The district-wise figures for the positive cases are Malappuram 1,451, Ernakulam 1,228, Kozhikode 1,219, Thrissur 960, Thiruvananthapuram 797, Kollam 712, Palakkad 640, Alappuzha 619, Kottayam 417, Kannur 413, Pathanamthitta 378, Kasargod 242, Wayanad 148 and Idukki 123. Of those diagnosed today, 46 have returned from foreign countries and 155 from other states.
The count of those infected through contact from the districts are Malappuram 1,332, Ernakulam 1,032, Kozhikode 1,128, Thrissur 943, Thiruvananthapuram 633, Kollam 705, Palakkad 404, Alappuzha 615, Kottayam 405, Kannur 270, Pathanamthitta 308, Kasaragod 222, Wayanad 141 and Idukki 78.
The numbers of infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 24, Kozhikode 15, Thiruvananthapuram 12, Malappuram 11, Thrissur 10, Kottayam & Ernakulam 8 each, Kasargod 5, Kollam 4, Pathanamthitta & Wayanad 3 each, and Alappuzha 2. Four INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were among those infected by Coronavirus.
The district-wise tally of patients who tested negative today is Thiruvananthapuram 1,200, Kollam 1,421, Pathanamthitta 240, Alappuzha 729, Kottayam 161, Idukki 50, Ernakulam 1,036, Thrissur 580, Palakkad 546, Malappuram 1,059, Kozhikode 954, Wayanad 96, Kannur 347 and Kasaragod 505. So far, 1,91,798 people have been cured of Covid and at present, there are 96,316 patients undergoing treatment for the disease in the State.
There are a total of 2,84,924 people under observation in various districts of the state, 2,56,172 under home or institutional quarantine and 28,752 in isolation at hospitals. 3,658 persons were hospitalised today.
61,629 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 35,94,320 samples have so far been sent for testing, including 2,12,896 samples from priority groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
12 new places were declared as hotspots today while 10 areas were excluded. There are 666 hotspots in Kerala now.
