Recoveries cross 5 lakhs mark; 35,659 sample tests in last 24 hours


Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 22: Covid-19 was confirmed in 3,757 persons in Kerala today even as 5,425 patients reported negative results taking the total number of patient recoveries to 5,00,089. 3,272 people including 32 medical personnel were infected through contact and the contact source was unknown for 377. Meanwhile, 22 deaths were confirmed today as being caused by Covid and the related death toll in the State is now 2,071.

35,659 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 10.54%. A total of 58,92,900 samples have so far been sent for testing.

The figures for the new positive cases from the districts are Malappuram 1,023, Kozhikode 514, Palakkad 331, Ernakulam 325, Kottayam 279, Thrissur 278, Alappuzha 259, Thiruvananthapuram 229, Kollam 198, Kannur 144, Pathanamthitta 57, Idukki 49, Wayanad 39 and Kasaragod 32. Of those diagnosed, 76 have travelled to the state from outside.

The district-wise numbers for the locally transmitted cases are Malappuram 993, Kozhikode 467, Palakkad 182, Ernakulam 235, Kottayam 276, Thrissur 264, Alappuzha 256, Thiruvananthapuram 158, Kollam 194, Kannur 112, Pathanamthitta 46, Idukki 30, Wayanad 30 and Kasargod 29.

The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam 6, Thiruvananthapuram & Thrissur 5, Kannur 4, Kozhikode 3; Pathanamthitta, Idukki & Malappuram 2 each, and Kollam, Palakkad & Wayanad 1 each.

The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 751, Kollam 572, Pathanamthitta 173, Alappuzha 252, Kottayam 175, Idukki 137, Ernakulam 517, Thrissur 674, Palakkad 583, Malappuram 527, Kozhikode 698, Wayanad 82, Kannur 187 and Kasaragod 97. At present, there are 64,166 patients undergoing treatment for Coronavirus in the State.

There are currently 3,14,543 people under isolation across the state – 2,98,395 at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 16,148 in hospitals. 1,551 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

One place each in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Kasargod districts were declared as hotspots today (total four) while seven areas were exempted. There are 556 hotspots now in Kerala.
