Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 26: Covid-19 was detected in 5,378 persons in Kerala today. 4,670 people were infected through contact and the contact source for 582 was unknown. There were 50 healthcare personnel among those infected. At the same time, 5,970 patient recoveries were reported today. 27 deaths were confirmed as being caused by Covid and the related death toll in the State is now 2,148.

55,996 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.60%. A total of 60,74,921 samples have so far been sent for testing.

The district-wise figures for those who tested positive today are Malappuram 719, Kozhikode 686, Thrissur 573, Ernakulam 472, Thiruvananthapuram 457, Kottayam 425, Kollam 397, Palakkad 376, Alappuzha 347, Idukki 256, Kannur 226, Pathanamthitta 207, Wayanad 151 and Kasargod 86. Of those diagnosed, 76 have travelled to the State from outside.

The numbers for the locally transmitted cases in the districts are Malappuram 689, Kozhikode 632, Thrissur 557, Ernakulam 340, Thiruvananthapuram 310, Kottayam 421, Kollam 390, Palakkad 229, Alappuzha 326, Idukki 212, Kannur 184, Pathanamthitta 156, Wayanad 142 and Kasaragod 82.

The count for the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kozhikode 10, Ernakulam 9, Thiruvananthapuram & Kannur 6 each, Pathanamthitta 5, Malappuram & Wayanad 3 each; Kottayam, Thrissur & Kasargod 2 each, and Kollam & Palakkad 1 each.

The district-wise tally of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 488, Kollam 481, Pathanamthitta 168, Alappuzha 852, Kottayam 204, Idukki 84, Ernakulam 807, Thrissur 589, Palakkad 461, Malappuram 789, Kozhikode 709, Wayanad 129, Kannur 150 and Kasaragod 59.

At present, there are 64,486 patients undergoing treatment for Coronavirus infection in the State while a total of 5,16,978 people have so far recovered from the disease.

There are 3,17,195 people totally under observation in various districts of the state – 3,00,925 isolated at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 16,270 in hospitals. 1,891 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

Five places were demarcated as hotspots today even as six areas were excluded. There are currently 545 hotspots in Kerala.
