Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 19: Covid-19 was detected in 6,293 persons in Kerala today taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 7,00,158. 5,578 people including 49 healthcare workers were infected through contact and the source of infection was not traceable for 593. At the same time, 4,749 patients were cured of the disease. Meanwhile, 29 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid and the related death toll in the state is now 2,786.
59,995 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 10.49%. So far, a total of 72,93,518 samples have been sent for testing.
The district-wise numbers of those who tested positive today for Coronavirus infection are Ernakulam 826, Kozhikode 777, Malappuram 657, Thrissur 656, Kottayam 578, Alappuzha 465, Kollam 409, Palakkad 390, Pathanamthitta 375, Thiruvananthapuram 363, Kannur 268, Wayanad 239, Idukki 171 and Kasaragod 119. Today, 73 of those diagnosed with the disease have travelled to the state from outside.
The count for the locally transmitted cases are Ernakulam 644, Kozhikode 753, Malappuram 616, Thrissur 640, Kottayam 560, Alappuzha 447, Kollam 400, Palakkad 208, Pathanamthitta 289, Thiruvananthapuram 291, Kannur 218, Wayanad 237, Idukki 164 and Kasargod 111.
The numbers for the infected healthcare personnel from the districts are Ernakulam 9, Kannur 8, Thrissur 7, Kozhikode 5, Thiruvananthapuram 4; Kollam, Pathanamthitta & Kasaragod 3 each, Palakkad & Wayanad 2 each, and Alappuzha, Kottayam & Malappuram 1 each.
The district-wise figures for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 315, Kollam 309, Pathanamthitta 185, Alappuzha 262, Kottayam 462, Idukki 93, Ernakulam 606, Thrissur 442, Palakkad 238, Malappuram 664, Kozhikode 618, Wayanad 157, Kannur 330 and Kasaragod 68.
At present, there are 60,396 patients undergoing treatment for the disease while a total of 6,36,814 people have so far recovered from Covid in the State.
There are currently 2,89,910 people under isolation across the state – 2,76,377 under home or institutional quarantine and 13,533 in hospitals. 1,474 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
Four new places were declared as new hotspots today even as four areas were excluded. The total number of hotspots in Kerala remains at 458.
