Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 03: Covid-19 was detected in 4,600 persons in Kerala today. 4,039 people including 49 healthcare workers were infected through contact and the contact source of infection was unknown for 451. At the same time, 4,668 patients have recovered from the disease today. Meanwhile, 25 deaths in the last few days were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll in the state to 3,141.

During the last 24 hours, 47,291 samples were tested and the test positivity rate is 9.73%. A total of 80,66,113 samples have so far been sent for testing.

The district-wise numbers of the new positive cases are Ernakulam 728, Malappuram 522, Kozhikode 511, Kottayam 408, Pathanamthitta 385, Thrissur 328, Kollam 327, Thiruvananthapuram 282, Alappuzha 270, Idukki 253, Palakkad 218, Kannur 179, Wayanad 148 and Kasargod 41. Of those diagnosed with the disease today, 61 have arrived here from outside the state.

The count of the locally transmitted cases in the districts are Ernakulam 657, Malappuram 503, Kozhikode 485, Kottayam 371, Pathanamthitta 328, Thrissur 320, Kollam 322, Thiruvananthapuram 143, Alappuzha 254, Idukki 247, Palakkad 89, Kannur 140, Wayanad 145 and Kasaragod 35.

The numbers of infected healthcare personnel from the districts are Pathanamthitta 12, Ernakulam 9, Kozhikode 8, Thiruvananthapuram 4; Thrissur, Palakkad & Kannur 3 each; Idukki, Malappuram & Wayanad 2 each, and Kasargod 1.

The district-wise figures of the patients whose test results were negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 264, Kollam 423, Pathanamthitta 199, Alappuzha 223, Kottayam 499, Idukki 178, Ernakulam 502, Thrissur 277, Palakkad 306, Malappuram 696, Kozhikode 583, Wayanad 127, Kannur 358 and Kasaragod 33.

At present, there are 65,278 patients undergoing treatment for Coronavirus infection while a total of 7,07,244 have so far recovered from the disease in the state.

There are presently 2,36,664 people in isolation across the state – 2,25,295 under home or institutional quarantine and 11,369 in hospitals. 1,241 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

Two places were declared as new hotspots today with just one exclusion. There are 448 hotspots in Kerala now.
