Opium War, Afghanistan’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film for the Oscars in 2009, will have its Indian premiere on March 22, Day Five of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2022).
The film directed by Siddiq Barmak will be screened at Ariesplex-6 at 11.45 a.m. as part of the Framing Conflict series. Barmak is the acclaimed director of Osama, which depicts the plight of the Afghan people under Taliban rule.
Opium War is a black comedy which revolves around the life of two American soldiers who crash-land on an opium field and are at the mercy of the elements and an Afghanistan family. It has been screened at several international film festivals, including the 2008 edition of the Rome Film Festival, where it won the Golden Marc’Aurelio Critics’ Award for Best Film.
