27th IFFK will feature Saeed Roustayi’s Leila’s Brothers in the World Cinema section, which deals with the lives of a family drowning in debt and struggling to make ends meet due to sanctions and the economic crisis in Iran. The film was banned in Iran for screening at the Cannes Film Festival without the permission of the state. The film, which will have its Indian premiere at the festival, won the FIPRESCI and Citizenship Prizes at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

Leila’s Brothers centres around the titular sister, Leila, and her quartet of brothers, each with his own shape, size, and distinct personality type, who are crushed by debt, and also discusses the living crisis in Iran. It also takes aim at the patriarchal culture still embedded in many parts of society. Taraneh Alidoosti, known for her association with Asghar Farhadi, plays the lead character, Leila, in the film.
