Thiruvananthapuram, June 02: 86 persons have been confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 in Kerala today. This was informed by the Health Minister, Smt K K Shailaja.

15 people in Malappuram district, 10 from Alappuzha district, nine in Kasargod district, eight from Kollam district, seven in Thiruvananthapuram district, six each from Kottayam, Thrissur and Wayanad districts, five each in Palakkad, Kozhikode and Kannur districts, three from Ernakulam district and one in Pathanamthitta district are those who have tested positive with the virus.

Of the new cases, 46 persons have come back to the State from abroad (Kuwait-21, UAE-16, Saudi Arabia-6, Maldives-1, Qatar-1 & Oman-1) and 26 are returnees from other states (Maharashtra-9, Tamil Nadu-7, Karnataka-5, Delhi-3, Gujarat-1 & Rajasthan-1). 12 people including a health worker in Palakkad district, have got infected through primary contact. The sample of a 77-year-old Christian priest who was undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for serious respiratory infection and died today has also tested positive.

Meanwhile, 19 patients who were undergoing treatment for Coronavirus have tested negative today. Seven patients each in Kottayam and Kasargod districts, two from Thiruvananthapuram district, and one each in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Kannur districts are those who recovered from the disease. So far, 627 people have been cured of Covid in the state and 774 patients are still under treatment.

Presently, there are 1,47,010 people are under surveillance in various districts. Of these, 1,45,670 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 1,340 are isolated in hospitals. 200 persons were hospitalised today.

Over the past 24 hours, 2,421 samples have been sent for testing. Till now,  samples of 71,068 individuals (including the augmented samples) have been sent for testing and of the available results, 67,249 samples have been confirmed with no infection. Apart from this, as part of Sentinel Surveillance, 15,101 samples were collected from high-risk priority groups such as health workers, guest workers, people with high social contacts, and 13,908 samples have tested negative.

One place in Malappuram district was declared as hotspot today and there are currently 122 hot spots in the State.

Till date, 1,43,989 people have arrived in Kerala from other states and countries, 1,06,218 by road, 25,832 by flights, 10,318 by trains and 1,621 by ships.
