Five new hotspots, total 163

Thiruvananthapuram, June 10: Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja today informed that 65 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. Meanwhile, the test result of Kumaran, an 87-year-old who died in Thrissur district on June 07, has come positive for Coronavirus. Till now, 17 people have died of Covid in the State.

10 persons from Kozhikode district, nine in Thrissur district (including the dead person), seven from Malappuram district, six each in Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad districts, four each from Kollam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Wayanad and Kannur districts, three each in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts and one from Alappuzha district are those who have been detected with the disease.

Of the new cases, 34 people have come back from overseas (UAE-22, Kuwait-4, Oman-3, Nigeria-2, Russia-2 & Saudi Arabia-1) and 25 from other states (Maharashtra-9, Tamil Nadu-9, Delhi-3, Karnataka-1, Arunachal Pradesh-1, Gujarat-1 & Uttar Pradesh-1). Five are cases of local transmission – two each in Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram districts, and one in Kozhikode district.

At the same time, the test results of 57 patients who were under treatment for the disease were negative today. 13 patients from Kannur district, 11 in Kasargod district, seven from Alappuzha district, six each in Pathanamthitta and Wayanad districts, four from Kollam district, three each in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode district, and two each from Kottayam and Ernakulam districts are those who have recovered. So far, 905 patients have been cured of Covid and 1,238 people are still under treatment across the State.

The total number of people are under observation in various districts of the state is 2,10,592. Out of these, 2,08,748 are under surveillance at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 1,844 are isolated in hospitals. 206 persons were admitted to the hospital today.

Over the last 24 hours, 4,689 samples were tested. Till now, 98,304 samples (including augmented samples) have been sent for testing and 93,475 samples have been confirmed with no infection. Apart from this, 24,508 samples were collected from priority groups with more social exposure as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 22,950 samples were negative. So far, a total of 1,31,006 samples were tested, including 6,364 repeat samples.

Five new places were declared as hotspots in Kerala today taking the total to 163. One place each in Malappuram and Kasargod districts, and three in Kottayam district are the new hotspots.
