1,303 patients under treatment

Nine new hotspots, 14 exempted, total 128

Thiruvananthapuram, June 12: 78 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed today in Kerala. This was informed by the Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja. 14 persons each from Thrissur and Malappuram Districts, 13 in Alappuzha District, seven from Pathanamthitta District, five each in Ernakulam and Palakkad Districts, four each from Kollam, Kozhikode and Kasargod Districts, three each in Kottayam and Kannur districts, and one each from Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts are those who were diagnosed with the infection.

Of these, 36 people have arrived in the State from foreign countries (UAE-17, Kuwait-12, Saudi Arabia-4, Oman-2 & Maldives-1) and 31 from other states (Maharashtra-16, Delhi-7, Tamil Nadu-3, Karnataka-2, Andhra Pradesh-1, Jharkhand-1 & Jammu & Kashmir-1). 10 people got infected through primary contact, seven in Thrissur district and three in Malappuram district.

The list also includes Usman Kutty (71) who died in Kannur district yesterday. He was a heart patient with severe respiratory issues. He had returned from Mumbai on June 9. This is the 19th death in the State due to Covid.

Meanwhile, the test results of 32 patients who were undergoing treatment for Coronavirus were negative today. Seven patients from Kollam district, six in Palakkad district, four each from Idukki, Ernakulam (including a native from Thiruvananthapuram) and Thrissur districts, two each in Kannur (including a native of Kasargod) and Kozhikode districts, and one each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Kasargod districts are those who tested negative. So far, 999 patients have been cured of Covid in the State and presently, 1,303 are under treatment.

A total of 2,27,402 people are under observation in various districts of the state. 2,25,417 are under surveillance in the home or institutional quarantine and 1,985 are isolated in hospitals. 242 people were hospitalised today.

Over the last 24 hours, 5,001 samples were tested. So far, samples of 1,06,850 individuals have been sent for testing and out of these, the results of 3,392 samples are awaited. In addition, 28,356 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, migrant workers and people with high social exposure as part of Sentinel Surveillance, and 26,143 samples were negative. Till now, a total of 1,40,457 samples including Routine Samples, Augmented Samples, Sentinel Samples, Pooled Sentinel, C B Nat and True Nat, have been sent for testing.

Nine new places were declared as hotspots today while 14 places have been excluded from the list. Currently, there are 128 hotspots in Kerala.
