Total 1,450 patients under treatment

Thiruvananthapuram, June 20: 127 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today even as 57 patients recovered from the disease. Briefing the media, Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Today is the day when we have the highest number of active cases being reported on a single day in the State. Of the newly detected cases, 87 people have come back from foreign countries and 36 from other states. Three have got infected through primary contact and one is a health worker. There are new cases across the State, in all the 14 districts.”

24 people in Kollam district, 23 from Palakkad district, 17 in Pathanamthitta district, 12 from Kozhikode district, 11 in Kottayam district, seven from Kasargod district, six in Thrissur district, five each from Malappuram, Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram districts, four each in Kannur and Alappuzha districts, three from Ernakulam district and one in Idukki district, are those who tested positive for the virus.

Kuwait-42, Saudi Arabia-16, UAE-15, Qatar-8, Bahrain-3, Oman-1, Nigeria-1 & Africa-1 make up the 87 cases of those who returned from overseas and Maharashtra-15, Delhi-9, Tamil Nadu-5, Karnataka-2, Uttar Pradesh-2, Rajasthan-1, Madhya Pradesh-1 & Gujarat-1 add up the 36 who have come back from other States. One person each in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Ernakulam districts are those who got infected through primary contact. The infected health worker is from Pathanamthitta district.

12 patients each from Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts, 11 in Kozhikode district, 10 from Palakkad district, two each in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts, and one each from Ernakulam and Malappuram districts are those who tested negative today.

The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the state is 3,039 and 1,450 patients are presently undergoing treatment. 1,566 patients have so far recovered from Coronavirus.

A total of 1,39,342 people are currently under quarantine in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,37,306 are under surveillance at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 2,036 are in isolation at hospitals.

In the last 24 hours, 4,817 samples were tested. Overall, 1,78,559 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 3,193 samples are awaited. 37,136 samples from priority groups were tested as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 35,712 samples were confirmed with no infection.

71,958 people have reached Kerala from abroad

“People started coming back to Kerala by the road from May 04, by flights from May 07, by ships from May 10 and by trains from May 14. Of the 2,413 new Covid cases reported here till June 19, 2,165 cases were in people who came back to the State from other States and from overseas”, the Chief Minister said.

401 flights (225 chartered flights and 176 flights under the Vande Bharat mission) and three ships have so far arrived in Kerala. A total of 71,958 people have reached the State from abroad. 137 have landed at international airports outside the state. So far, 1,048 flights have been approved with 124 consent letters.

So far, 28,114 Pravasies have returned on 154 flights from the UAE, 10,439 on 60 flights from Kuwait, 8,707 on 50 flights from Oman, 6,005 on 36 flights from Qatar, 4,309 on 26 flights from Bahrain and 7,190 on 34 flights from Saudi Arabia. Another 7,184 people have come by 44 flights from other countries also. Of the total 71,958 people, 1,524 were senior citizens, 4,898 were pregnant women and 7,193 were children. 35,327 were people who lost their jobs.

The CM also commented that with the relaxation in lockdown conditions, it has been observed that social distancing norms are not being followed at many places including shops and markets. “There is always a concern of community spread and we should take all steps to avoid that. We should make sure that all norms being strictly followed.”

Three places, one each in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts were declared as hotspots today while four places in Palakkad district were excluded from the list. Currently, there are 111 hotspots in Kerala.
