Total 1,939 patients under treatment

Thiruvananthapuram, June 27: Kerala today reported it’s highest ever count of 195 new active cases of Covid-19 on a single day. At the same time, 102 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered today, which is also the highest number of recoveries on a single day. This was informed by the Minister for Health & Social Justice, Smt K K Shailaja.

47 persons in Malappuram district, 25 from Palakkad district, 22 in Thrissur district, 15 from Kottayam district, 14 in Ernakulam district, 13 from Alappuzha district, 12 in Kollam district, 11 each in Kannur and Kasargod districts, eight from Kozhikode district, six in Pathanamthitta district, five from Wayanad district, four in Thiruvananthapuram district and two from Idukki district are those who were confirmed with Coronavirus infection today.

Of the newly diagnosed cases, 118 were returnees from abroad and 62 from other states. The country-wise details are Kuwait – 62, UAE – 26, Saudi Arabia – 8, Oman – 8, Qatar – 6, Bahrain – 5, Kazakhistan – 2 and Egypt – 1. The state-wise details are Tamil Nadu-19, Delhi-13, Maharashtra-11, Karnataka-10, West Bengal-3, Madhya Pradesh-3, Telangana-1, Andhra Pradesh-1 and Jammu Kashmir-1.

15 are cases of local transmission. Ten people in Malappuram district, two from Kollam district and one each in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur districts are those who have contracted the disease through contact.

22 patients from Malappuram district, 17 in Pathanamthitta district, 15 from Kannur district, 14 in Kollam district, seven from Kottayam district, six in Thrissur district, five each from Alappuzha and Kasargod districts, four each in Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts, two from Palakkad district and one from Ernakulam district are those whose test results were negative today. Till now, 2,108 have recovered from Covid and 1,939 patients are undergoing treatment.

A total of 1,67,978 people are currently under quarantine across the state. Of these, 1,65,515 are under home or institutional quarantine and 2,463 are in hospitals. 281 people were admitted to the hospital today.

Meanwhile, the number of tests being conducted daily has been increased. In the last 24 hours, 6,166 samples were tested. So far, a total of 2,15,243 samples have been sent for testing and of these, the results of 4,032 samples are yet to come. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 44,129 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, migrant labourers and those with high public exposure and 42,411 samples were negative.

Today, one place in Palakkad district was declared as a hotspot while four places were excluded from the list. There are currently 111 hotspots in the State.
