Thiruvananthapuram, July 20: 794 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today even as 245 patients under treatment have recovered. Minister for Health & Social Justice, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 519 people were infected through contact and there are 24 cases with no known source of contact. Of those diagnosed today, 148 came back from overseas and 105 from other states.

The district-wise figures of the positive cases are 182 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 92 in Kozhikode district, 79 from Kollam district, 72 in Ernakulam district, 53 from Alappuzha district, 50 in Malappuram district, 49 from Palakkad district, 48 in Kannur district, 46 from Kottayam district, 42 in Thrissur district, 28 from Kasargod district, 26 in Wayanad district, 24 from Idukki district and three in Pathanamthitta district. The list also includes the test result of Sister Claire (73) who died on July 16 in Ernakulam district taking the total number of Covid related deaths in the State to 43.

The details of the locally transmitted cases are 170 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 71 in Kollam district, 59 in Ernakulam district, 44 in Kozhikode district, 38 in Kottayam district, 29 in Palakkad district, 24 in Alappuzha district, 22 in Thrissur district, 15 in Kannur district, 14 in Idukki district, 13 in Malappuram district, 11 in Kasaragod district, seven in Wayanad district and two in Pathanamthitta district.

15 healthcare workers were also infected, four in Thiruvananthapuram district, three each from Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts, two each in Kollam and Malappuram districts and one in Kozhikode district. In addition, one BSF personnel each in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts and four KSC employees in Thrissur district were also infected.

93 patients from Palakkad district, 45 in Thrissur district, 35 from Malappuram district, 19 in Kottayam district, 16 from Pathanamthitta district, 10 in Kasargod district, nine from Alappuzha district, eight in Ernakulam district, four each from Kozhikode and Kannur districts, and two in Thiruvananthapuram district are those whose test results were negative today. So far, 5,618 people have been cured of Coronavirus and 7,611 people are still undergoing treatment in the State.

There are currently 1,65,233 persons are under surveillance in various districts of the state. 1,57,523 are under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 7,710 are in isolation in hospitals. 871 people were admitted to the hospital today.

14,640 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 5,46,000 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 5,969 samples are awaited. Of these, 98,115 samples were collected from high public exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance and 94,016 samples were negative.

20 new places were designated as hotspots today while just one place was exempted from the list. Now there are 337 hotspots in Kerala.
