10,495 patients under treatment

14 new hotspots, total 498

Thiruvananthapuram, July 31: Minister for Health, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that 1,310 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala since yesterday noon. 885 active cases were reported today and there were 425 results from yesterday afternoon that could not be reported due to some technical issues on the ICMR portal. These results were from Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad and Kasargod districts.

Of the positive cases, 1,162 people were infected through contact and the source in 36 cases is unknown. 48 are those who came from foreign countries and 54 from other states.

Three deaths were also reported taking the Covid related death toll in the State to 73. The deceased are 59-year old Baihaiki and 85-year old Aleyamma Ernakulam district, and 56-year old Rukmini from Kollam district.

320 persons in Thiruvananthapuram district, 132 from Ernakulam district, 130 in Pathanamthitta district, 124 from Wayanad district, 89 in Kottayam district, 84 from Kozhikode district, 83 in Palakkad district, 75 from Malappuram district, 60 in Thrissur district, 59 from Idukki district, 53 in Kollam district, 52 from Kasaragod district, 35 in Alappuzha district and 14 from Kannur district were diagnosed with Coronavirus.

The district-wise figures of contact cases are 311 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 127 in Pathanamthitta district, 124 in Wayanad district, 109 in Ernakulam district, 85 in Kottayam district, 75 in Kozhikode district, 65 in Palakkad district, 63 in Malappuram district, 48 each in Thrissur and Kasaragod districts, 44 in Kollam district, 30 in Idukki district, 29 in Alappuzha district and four in Kannur district.

20 healthcare workers were also infected – eight from Thiruvananthapuram district, five from Kannur district, three from Kozhikode district, and one each from Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Thrissur districts. Four KSE employees and a KLF employee in Thrissur district, and 20 INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were also infected by the disease.

Meanwhile, the test results of 864 patients under treatment were negative today. 129 patients from Kasaragod district, 114 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 111 from Palakkad district, 94 in Kollam district, 75 from Kozhikode district, 66 in Ernakulam district, 65 from Kottayam district, 45 from Idukki district, 44 in Pathanamthitta district, 41 from Kannur district, 27 in Thrissur district, 25 from Alappuzha district, 19 in Wayanad district and nine from Malappuram district are those who were cured of the disease. So far, 13,027 people have recovered from Covid and currently, 10,495 patients are undergoing treatment.

There are at present 1,43,323 persons under observation across the state, 1,33,151 under home or institutional quarantine and 10,172 in hospitals. 1,292 people were admitted to the hospital today.

22,279 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 7,76,268 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 6,445 samples are yet to come. As part of the Sentinel Surveillance, 1,23,227 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and individuals with greater social exposure, and the results of 2,645 samples are awaited.

Today, 14 new places were assigned as hotspots while 11 were exempted. There are presently 498 hotspots in Kerala.
