Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 10: 1,184 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today even as 784 have recovered from the disease. Sharing the details, Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Of the active cases detected today, 956 were infected through contact and the source was unknown in 114. 106 are those who came back from overseas and 73 from other states. 41 healthcare workers were also infected.”. The Chief Minister also condoled the seven Covid related deaths reported in the State.

The deceased are Gracie Shiny (54) from Ernakulam district, Devdas (45) from Kollam district, Mohammed Kunji (68) from Kasargod district, Alvikutty (65) from Wayanad district, Nafisa (52) from Malappuram district, Abu Backer (64) from Kozhikode district and Jama (50) from Thiruvananthapuram district. So far, 115 people in Kerala have lost their lives due to Covid.

The district-wise figures of the new positive cases today are 255 from Malappuram district, 200 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 147 from Palakkad district, 146 in Kasaragod district, 101 from Ernakulam district, 66 in Kozhikode district, 63 from Kannur district, 41 in Kollam district, 40 each from Kottayam and Thrissur districts, 33 in Wayanad district, 30 from Alappuzha district, 18 from Idukki district and four in Pathanamthitta district.

The details of the contact cases are 219 in Malappuram district, 178 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 118 in Kasargod district, 100 in Palakkad district, 83 in Ernakulam district, 52 in Kozhikode district, 46 in Kannur district, 33 each in Kollam and Thrissur districts, 32 each from Kottayam and Wayanad districts, 20 in Alappuzha district, nine from Idukki district and one in Pathanamthitta district.

The infected healthcare workers are 13 in Thiruvananthapuram district, seven each in Palakkad and Kozhikode districts, five in Kasaragod district, four in Ernakulam district, three in Malappuram district and one each in Kollam and Thrissur districts.

One cabin crew member each in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, one DSC personnel in Kannur district and five INHS personnel in Ernakulam district are among those infected by Coronavirus.

The district-wise figures of those who tested negative today are 180 patients in Thiruvananthapuram district, 102 from Palakkad district, 71 in Kozhikode district, 61 from Pathanamthitta district, 60 in Thrissur district, 55 from Kottayam district, 53 in Malappuram district, 47 from Ernakulam district, 41 in Wayanad district, 37 candidates from Kollam district, 32 in Kannur district, 25 from Alappuzha district, 11 in Kasaragod district and nine from Idukki district.

Till now, 22,620 people have been cured of Covid and 12,737 patients are at present undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the State.

A total of 1,49,295 persons are currently under surveillance in various districts of the state, 1,37,419 under observation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 11,876 in hospitals. 1,323 people were hospitalised today.

20,583 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 10,00,988 samples have so far been sent for testing and the results of 2,829 samples are yet to come. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 1,37,805 samples were collected from high-risk groups and the results of 127 samples are awaited.

Today, 13 new places were designated as hotspots while nine were excluded. There are 531 hotspots in Kerala now.
