Total 23,488 patients under treatment

Total recoveries cross 50K mark

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 31: Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja has informed that Covid-19 was confirmed in 1,530 persons in Kerala today while 1,693 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered and were discharged from the hospitals. Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries has crossed the 50,000 mark as 51,542 people have so far been cured of Covid in the State.

Of those diagnosed today, 1,367 were infected through contact and the source of infection in 136 cases was not traceable. 54 of them have returned from foreign countries and 80 from other states. 29 healthcare workers were also infected by Coronavirus.

Seven recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid. Gunamani (65) from Kanyakumari district, Stoles (52), John (83) & Suresh (83) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Ramani (70) from Kollam district, and Alikoya (66) & K T Aboobacker (64) from Kozhikode district are the deceased. This takes the Covid related death toll in the State to 294. Further deaths will be confirmed after tests at NIV, Alappuzha.

The district-wise figures of the positive cases are 221 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 210 in Ernakulam district, 177 from Malappuram district, 137 in Alappuzha district, 131 from Kollam district, 117 in Kozhikode district, 107 from Pathanamthitta district, 103 in Kasaragod district, 86 in Kottayam district, 85 from Thrissur district, 74 in Kannur district, 42 from Palakkad district, 25 in Wayanad district and 15 from Idukki district.

The locally transmitted cases were found to in 208 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 198 from Ernakulam district, 167 in Malappuram district, 117 from Kollam district, 116 in Alappuzha district, 106 from Kozhikode district, 97 in Kasaragod district, 84 from Kottayam district, 83 in Thrissur district, 72 from Pathanamthitta district, 53 in Kannur district, 32 from Palakkad district, 20 from Wayanad district and 13 in Idukki district.

Eight healthcare workers in Ernakulam district, seven in Thiruvananthapuram district, five in Kannur district, three each in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, and one each in Kollam, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts were those infected.

The number of patients who tested negative today are 374 patients in Thiruvananthapuram district, 108 from Kollam district, 72 in Pathanamthitta district, 75 from Alappuzha district, 90 in Kottayam district, 23 from Idukki district, 90 in Ernakulam district, 125 from Thrissur district, 114 in Palakkad district, 253 from Malappuram district, 197 in Kozhikode district, 28 from Wayanad district, 88 in Kannur district and 56 from Kasaragod district. At present 23,488 patients are still undergoing treatment across the State.

There are currently 1,98,843 people under observation in various districts of the state, 1,79,477 under home or institutional quarantine and 19,366 in hospitals. 1,811 people were hospitalised today.

During the last 24 hours, 18,027 samples were tested. So far, a total of 16,85,203 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,78,076 samples from high-risk groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.

Two new places were declared as hotspots today while nine were exempted. There are 579 hotspots in Kerala now.
