Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 05: Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that 2,655 new active cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kerala today. Of these, 2,433 are locally transmitted cases and the contact source in 220 cases was unknown. 38 of them are returnees from foreign countries and 114 from other states. 61 healthcare workers were also among those infected. At the same time, 2,111 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered today.
11 deaths have been reported today as due to Covid. Vijayakumar (61), Maniyan Nadar (70), V K Devassia (73) & Shyamala (62) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Abdul Kareem (78) from Kannur district; Dhanya (26), Asha Mujeeb (45), Ashwathi (25) & Sudhakumari (54) from Kollam district, Dhanalakshmi (60) from Thrissur district and Befathima (80) from Kasaragod district are the deceased. This takes the Covid related death toll in the State to 337.
590 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 276 from Kasaragod district, 249 in Malappuram district, 244 from Kozhikode district, 222 from Kannur district, 186 in Ernakulam district, 170 from Kollam district, 169 from Thrissur district, 148 in Pathanamthitta district, 131 from Alappuzha district, 119 from Kottayam district, 100 in Palakkad district, 31 from Idukki district and 20 from Wayanad district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.
Those infected through contact are 574 persons in Thiruvananthapuram district, 249 from Kasargod district, 236 in Malappuram district, 235 from Kozhikode district, 186 in Kannur district, 169 from Ernakulam district, 164 in Kollam district, 157 from Thrissur district, 118 in Kottayam district, 117 from Alappuzha district, 109 in Pathanamthitta district, 84 from Palakkad district, 21 in Idukki district and 14 from Wayanad district.
The infected healthcare workers are 18 in Kannur district, 13 in Thiruvananthapuram district, six each in Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts, five in Kasaragod district, four in Malappuram district, three in Palakkad district, and two each in Alappuzha, Thrissur and Kozhikode districts.
Nine INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were also infected.
The district-wise numbers of patients who tested negative today are 512 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 134 from Kollam district, 140 in Pathanamthitta district, 32 from Alappuzha district, 121 in Kottayam district, 60 from Idukki district, 128 in Ernakulam district, 110 from Thrissur district, 112 in Palakkad, 338 from Malappuram district, 193 in Kozhikode district, 29 from Wayanad district, 124 in Kannur district and 78 from Kasaragod district.
21,800 Covid patients are still undergoing treatment in the State while a total of 62,559 persons have so far been cured of the disease.
There are currently 1,98,120 people under observation in various districts of the state, 1,80,898 under home or institutional quarantine and 17,222 in hospitals. 2,523 persons were admitted to the hospital today.
40,162 samples were analysed during the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 18,32,275 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,82,837 samples from high exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
14 new places were declared as hotspots today while 22 places were exempted. At present, there are 551 hotspots in Kerala
