Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 08: Covid-19 was confirmed in 3,026 persons in Kerala today. Of the cases detected, 2,723 are contact cases and the source of infection of 237 was not traceable. 49 have come back from abroad and 163 from other states. 89 healthcare workers were also infected. Meanwhile, 1,862 patients under treatment for the disease have recovered today.
13 recent deaths in the State were confirmed today as due to Covid-19. The deceased are Nelson (89), Prabhakaran Ashari (55), Rahumabeevi (66) & Mahesh (44) from Thiruvananthapuram district; Shamla Manaf (48), Sathish Kumar Gupta (71) & K E Sreedharan (84) from Ernakulam district; Usman (80) & Asmabi (49) from Kozhikode district; V Rema (54), Ramesh Babu (56) & Muneer (44) from Kannur district and Bahuleyan (57) from Thrissur district. The Covid related death toll is now 372. More deaths will be confirmed after subsequent tests at NIV, Alappuzha.
562 persons from Thiruvananthapuram district, 358 from Malappuram district, 318 in Ernakulam district, 246 from Kozhikode district, 226 from Palakkad district, 217 in Alappuzha district, 209 from Kollam district, 168 from Kottayam district, 166 in Kasargod district, 160 from Pathanamthitta district, 158 from Kannur district, 129 in Thrissur district, 85 from Idukki district and 24 from Wayanad district are those who tested positive for Coronavirus today.
Those who got infected through contact are 542 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 323 from Malappuram district, 293 in Ernakulam district, 238 from Kozhikode district, 201 in Kollam district, 183 from Alappuzha district, 175 in Palakkad district, 168 from Kottayam district, 159 in Kasaragod district, 117 from Kannur district, 114 in Pathanamthitta district, 126 from Thrissur district, 63 in Idukki district and 21 from Wayanad district.
There are 32 infected healthcare workers in Kannur district, 19 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 12 in Ernakulam district, 10 in Malappuram district, five in Kasaragod district, three each in Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur districts, and one each in Palakkad and Kozhikode districts. Two CISF personnel from Ernakulam district are among those infected.
The district-wise figures for the patients who tested negative today are 389 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 191 from Kollam district, 90 in Pathanamthitta district, 147 from Alappuzha district, 133 from Kottayam district, 12 in Idukki district, 204 from Ernakulam district, 110 from Thrissur district, 59 in Palakkad district, 159 from Malappuram district, 145 from Kozhikode district, 25 in Wayanad district, 106 from Kannur district and 92 from Kasaragod district.
So far, 68,863 persons have been cured of Covid and at present, 23,217 patients are undergoing treatment in the State.
There are a total of 1,98,850 people under observation across the state, 1,80,963 at their homes or at institutional quarantine centres and 17,887 in hospitals. 2,076 people were hospitalised today.
37,264 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. Till now, a total of 19,33,294 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,85,137 samples from priority groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
13 new places were demarcated as hotspots today while 20 were excluded. There are currently 568 hotspots in Kerala.
