Number of Covid deaths cross 500
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 18: Covid-19 was reported in 4,167 people in Kerala today while 2,744 patients have recovered from the disease. 3,849 people were infected through contact even as the contact source of 410 was not traceable. Of those diagnosed today, 48 have come back from foreign countries and 165 from other states. 102 healthcare workers were also infected by Coronavirus.
12 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll to 501. Parvathy (75) from Ernakulam district; Prathap Chandran (75), Rajan (53) & Mersley (72) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Margate (68) from Kollam district, Ousep (87) from Thrissur district, Saidali (58) from Palakkad district, Safia (79) from Kasaragod district; Suhara (46), Kunjimuhammed (85) & Abdurahman (68) from Malappuram district and Anjala (55) from Thoothukudi district (TN) are the deceased. Further deaths will be confirmed after subsequent tests at NIV, Alappuzha.
The district-wise figures for the positive cases are Thiruvananthapuram 926, Kozhikode 404, Kollam 355, Ernakulam 348, Kannur 330, Thrissur 326, Malappuram 297, Alappuzha 274, Palakkad 268, Kottayam 225, Kasargod 145, Pathanamthitta 101, Idukki 100 and Wayanad 68.
The count for the contact cases from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 893, Kozhikode 384, Kollam 342, Ernakulam 314, Thrissur 312, Malappuram, Kannur 283, Alappuzha 259, Palakkad 228, Kottayam 223, Kasaragod 122, Pathanamthitta 75, Idukki 70 and Wayanad 61.
The details of the infected healthcare workers for the various districts are Thiruvananthapuram 27, Kannur 22, Malappuram 9; Kollam, Thrissur & Kasaragod 8 each, Pathanamthitta 7, Kozhikode 6, Ernakulam 5 and Alappuzha & Palakkad 1 each. Three INHS personnel in Ernakulam district were also infected by the disease.
The district-wise numbers for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 488, Kollam 345, Pathanamthitta 128, Alappuzha 146, Kottayam 112, Idukki 73, Ernakulam 221, Thrissur 142, Palakkad 118, Malappuram 265, Kozhikode 348, Wayanad 79, Kannur 169 and Kasaragod 110.
Presently, there are 35,724 people undergoing treatment for Covid while a total of 90,089 persons have so far recovered from the disease.
There are 2,16,262 people under observation across the state, 1,91,628 under home or institutional quarantine and 24,634 in hospitals. 3,282 persons were hospitalised today.
During the last 24 hours, 47,723 samples were tested. Till now, a total of 23,36,217 samples have been sent for testing, including 1,94,451 samples from high exposure groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
There are 18 new hotspots in the State while 12 have been exempted. As on today, there are 614 hotspots in Kerala.
