Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 09: 9,250 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala today even as 8,048 patients have recovered from the disease. This is the highest number of patients to recover on any single day so far according to the Minister of Health, Smt. K K Shailaja.
Meanwhile, 25 deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll in the State to 955. The deceased are Sasidharan Nair (75), Chellammal (70), Manju (29), Nusaifa Beevi (65), Omana (68), Velukutty (68) from Thiruvananthapuram district; Gunaseelan (53) from Kanyakumari district (TN), Nazeera Beevi (53), Sushilan (45), Thomas Philippose (68) & Telma (81) from Kollam district; Abdul Rahman Kunju (63) & Prakashan (68) from Alappuzha district, Sijo Thomas (38) from Kottayam district; Ammini Sreedharan (80), Shivan (84), Fathima (79) & Shaji (57) from Ernakulam district, Zubaida (55) from Thrissur district, Raghavan (85) from Kozhikode district; Abdul Khadir (70), Beavathu (60), Mariam (62) & Muhammad (70) from Malappuram district, and Abdullah (61) from Kasargod district.
The district-wise figures for the new active cases are Kozhikode 1,205, Malappuram 1,174, Thiruvananthapuram 1,012, Ernakulam 911, Alappuzha 793, Thrissur 755, Kollam 714, Palakkad 672, Kannur 556, Kottayam 522, Kasaragod 366, Pathanamthitta 290, Idukki 153 and Wayanad 127. 24 of those diagnosed with the disease have come back from foreign countries and 143 from other states.
8,215 are cases of local transmission and the contact source for 757 is unknown. The count of people infected through contact from the districts are Kozhikode 1,171, Malappuram 1,125, Thiruvananthapuram 878, Ernakulam 753, Alappuzha 778, Thrissur 723, Kollam 704, Palakkad 400, Kannur 376, Kottayam 499, Kasargod 360, Pathanamthitta 222, Idukki 111 and Wayanad 115.
111 healthcare workers were among those infected by Coronavirus. The number of infected healthcare workers from the districts is Thiruvananthapuram & Thrissur 22 each, Ernakulam 20, Kannur 12, Pathanamthitta 11, Malappuram & Kozhikode 5 each, Wayanad 4, Kollam & Kasaragod 3 each, and Alappuzha & Palakkad 2 each.
The district-wise count of patients who tested negative today is Thiruvananthapuram 1,074, Kollam 1,384, Pathanamthitta 222, Alappuzha 348, Kottayam 452, Idukki 98, Ernakulam 458, Thrissur 860, Palakkad 315, Malappuram 909, Kozhikode 835, Wayanad 152, Kannur 492 and Kasargod 449.
So far, 1,75,304 people have been cured of Covid in the State and at present, there are 91,756 patients undergoing treatment for the same.
There are 2,73,686 people totally under observation across the state, 2,45,261under home or institutional quarantine and 28,425 in hospitals. 2,892 people were admitted to the hospitals today.
68,321 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 34,71,365 samples have so far been sent for testing, including 2,12,185 samples from priority groups as part of Sentinel Surveillance.
11 new places were declared as hotspots today while 38 areas were excluded bringing down the number of hotspots in Kerala to 694.
