Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 18: 7,631 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala today while 8,410 patients have recovered from the disease. 6,685 people were infected through contact and the source of infection was unknown for 723. There are 63 healthcare workers among those infected.
22 deaths were confirmed today as being caused by Covid, taking the related toll in the state to 1,161. Gopalakrishnan (62), Thresiamma (82), Sarojam (63) & Beema from Thiruvananthapuram district, Sebastian (84) from Alappuzha district; Agnes (73), Amulya (16). Ashraf (56) & Balakrishnan (84) from Ernakulam district, Radha Bhaskaran (75) & Parukutty (83) from Thrissur district; Alavi (63), Ibrahim Kutty (83), Mohammad Rafi (54), Mujeeb Rahman (47), Nabeesa (75) & Sundaran (62) from Palakkad district; Kadijabeevi (75), Moosa (74) & Ummathukutty (73) from Malappuram district, and Shahrbanu (44) & Soumini (65) from Kozhikode district are the deceased.
The figures of the new active cases from the districts are Malappuram 1,399, Kozhikode 976, Thrissur 862, Ernakulam 730, Thiruvananthapuram 685, Kollam 540, Kottayam 514, Kannur 462, Alappuzha 385, Palakkad 342, Kasaragod 251, Pathanamthitta 179, Idukki 162 and Wayanad 144. Today, 160 of those diagnosed have travelled to Kerala from outside.
The district-wise numbers of the locally transmitted cases are Malappuram 1,367, Kozhikode 943, Thrissur 844, Ernakulam 486, Thiruvananthapuram 525, Kollam 537, Kottayam 465, Kannur 348, Alappuzha 373, Palakkad 179, Kasaragod 239, Pathanamthitta 129, Idukki 114 and Wayanad 136.
The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram 15, Kannur 12, Malappuram & Thrissur 8 each; Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam & Kasaragod 4 each; Kottayam, Idukki & Wayanad 2 each, and Kollam & Kozhikode 1 each.
The district-wise figures for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 1,210, Kollam 640, Pathanamthitta 375, Alappuzha 368, Kottayam 216, Idukki 131, Ernakulam 1,307, Thrissur 1,006, Palakkad 275, Malappuram 805, Kozhikode 1,193, Wayanad 122, Kannur 537 and Kasaragod 225.
At present, there are 95,200 patients undergoing treatment while 2,45,399 persons have so far recovered from Coronavirus infection.
There are a total of 2,80,236 people in isolation across the state, 2,55,696 under home or institutional quarantine and 24,540 under hospital surveillance. 2,795 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
58,404 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. A total of 39,39,199 samples have so far been sent for testing.
12 new places were declared as hotspots today even as eight areas were excluded. Presently, there are 637 hotspots in Kerala.
