Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 19: 6,591 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Kerala today while 7,375patients have recovered from the disease. 5,717 are cases of local transmission and the source of infection was not traceable in 707. There are 62 healthcare workers among those infected.

24 recent deaths were confirmed as due to Covid taking the death toll to 1,206. The deceased are J Neshayyan (85), Sreekumaran Nair (56), Sivaprasad (25), K Kunju Sankaran (80) & Lucius (50) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Pushpagadan (64) from Pathanamthitta district, Philip Abraham (50) & Muhammad Kunju (85) from Alappuzha district, Carmeli (68) & Baby (86) from Ernakulam district; Rosy (65), Baby Rajan (57), Sarojakshan (82), Varadaraj (76) & K K Paul (70) from Thrissur district; Mohammad (97), Beyumma (85), Marakkar (80), Jishnu (37) & Karuppan (75) from Malappuram district, and Sulaiman (63), P Ali (69), Mohammad Afzal (59) & Suresh (42) from Kannur district.

The district-wise figures for the new active cases are Thrissur 896, Kozhikode 806, Malappuram 786, Ernakulam 644, Alappuzha 592, Kollam 569, Kottayam 473, Thiruvananthapuram 470, Palakkad 403, Kannur 400, Pathanamthitta 248, Kasaragod 145, Wayanad 87 and Idukki 72. Of those diagnosed, 105 have travelled to Kerala from outside the state.

The count of those infected through contact from the districts are Thrissur 885, Kozhikode 735, Malappuram 692, Ernakulam 438, Alappuzha 574, Kollam 556, Kottayam 430, Thiruvananthapuram 324, Palakkad 242, Kannur 372, Pathanamthitta 195, Kasargod 139, Wayanad 80 and Idukki 55.

The tally of infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kozhikode 16, Thiruvananthapuram 13, Kollam 6, Malappuram 5; Ernakulam, Thrissur & Kannur 4 each; Pathanamthitta & Kottayam 3 each, and Wayanad & Kasaragod 2 each.

The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 360, Kollam 746, Pathanamthitta 301, Alappuzha 286, Kottayam 404, Idukki 85, Ernakulam 974, Thrissur 760, Palakkad 271, Malappuram 1,093, Kozhikode 1,029, Wayanad 113, Kannur 544 and Kasaragod 409.

At present, 91,922 patients are undergoing treatment while 2,60,243 people have so far been cured of Covid in the State.

There are 2,82,219 people totally under isolation in various districts of the state, 2,58,747 under home or institutional quarantine and 23,472 in hospitals. 2,592 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

53,901 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 40,29,699 samples have so far been sent for testing.

Six new hotspots were declared today even as 14 areas were excluded. Presently, there are 628 hotspots in the State.
