Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 02: 6,316 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Kerala today. 5,539 persons including 45 healthcare personnel were infected through contact and the source of infection was unknown for 634. At the same time, 5,924 patients have recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 28 deaths were confirmed as being caused by Covid and the related death toll in the state is now 2,298.

56,993 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 11.08%. Till now, a total of 63,78,278 samples have been sent for testing.

The district-wise figures for the new positive cases are Malappuram 822, Kozhikode 734, Ernakulam 732, Thrissur 655, Kottayam 537, Thiruvananthapuram 523, Alappuzha 437, Palakkad 427, Kollam 366, Pathanamthitta 299, Wayanad 275, Kannur 201, Idukki 200 and Kasargod 108. Of those diagnosed today, 98 have arrived in the state from outside.

The numbers from the districts for the locally transmitted cases are Malappuram 764, Kozhikode 688, Ernakulam 585, Thrissur 637, Kottayam 537, Thiruvananthapuram 371, Alappuzha 430, Palakkad 269, Kollam 358, Pathanamthitta 220, Wayanad 261, Kannur 165, Idukki 152 and Kasaragod 102.

The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram & Kozhikode 6 each; Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Palakkad & Kannur 5 each, Malappuram 4, Kollam & Thrissur 3 each, Kasaragod 2 and Alappuzha 1.

The district-wise numbers for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 465, Kollam 390, Pathanamthitta 193, Alappuzha 922, Kottayam 264, Idukki 73, Ernakulam 443, Thrissur 537, Palakkad 371, Malappuram 1054, Kozhikode 814, Wayanad 108, Kannur 258 and Kasaragod 32.

So far, 5,50,788 people have been cured of Covid in the State and presently, 61,455 patients are under treatment for Coronavirus infection.

There are 3,09,280 persons under isolation across the state, 2,94,018 under home or institutional quarantine and 15,262 in hospitals. 1,716 people were admitted to the hospitals today.

Four new hotspots were declared today while 26 areas were exempted. At present, there are 479 hotspots in Kerala.
