Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 09: Covid-19 was detected in 4,875 persons in Kerala today. 4,230 people including 43 healthcare workers were infected through contact and the contact source of infection was unknown for 508. At the same time, 4,647 patients have recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 35 deaths in the last few days were confirmed as due to Covid taking the related death toll in the state to 2,507.

52,655 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.26. A total of 67,55,630 samples have been sent for testing till now.

The district-wise figures for the new positive cases are Ernakulam 717, Malappuram 709, Kozhikode 656, Thrissur 511, Kottayam 497, Palakkad 343, Pathanamthitta 254, Kannur 251, Wayanad 241, Kollam 212, Alappuzha 194, Thiruvananthapuram 181, Idukki 57 and Kasaragod 52. Today, 94 of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the state.

The count for the locally transmitted cases in the districts are Ernakulam 562, Malappuram 643, Kozhikode 614, Thrissur 496, Kottayam 496, Palakkad 188, Pathanamthitta 190, Kannur 209, Wayanad 226, Kollam 209, Alappuzha 188, Thiruvananthapuram 113, Idukki 47 and Kasargod 49.

The tally of the infected medical staff from the districts is Kannur 9, Palakkad 7, Ernakulam 6, Pathanamthitta 5, Wayanad 4, Thiruvananthapuram & Thrissur 3 each, and Malappuram, Kozhikode & Kasaragod 2.

The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 401, Kollam 281, Pathanamthitta 182, Alappuzha 363, Kottayam 311, Idukki 56, Ernakulam 532, Thrissur 437, Palakkad 437, Malappuram 612, Kozhikode 610, Wayanad 111, Kannur 217 and Kasargod 64.

At present, there are 59,923 patients still undergoing treatment for Coronavirus infection while a total of 5,86,998 have so far been cured of the disease in the state.

There are 3,09,935 people now under isolation across the state – 2,95,771 under home or institutional quarantine and 14,164 in hospitals. 1,499 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

One place each in Alappuzha, Idukki and Palakkad districts (total three) was declared as hotspot even as four areas were exempted. Presently, there are 440 hotspots in Kerala.
