Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 14: 2,707 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Kerala today along with 4,481 patient recoveries. 2,291 persons including 37 medical staff were infected through contact and the source of infection was not traceable for 328. Meanwhile, 24 recent deaths were confirmed today as caused by Covid taking the death toll in the State to 2,647.

31,893 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 8.49%. So far, a total of 69,99,865 samples have been sent for testing.

The figures for the new positive cases from the districts are Malappuram 441, Ernakulam 343, Thrissur 268, Kottayam 252, Thiruvananthapuram 222, Alappuzha 220, Kozhikode 219, Palakkad 190, Kollam 160, Kannur 136, Pathanamthitta 133, Wayanad 61, Idukki 47 and Kasaragod 15. Today, 51 of those diagnosed have travelled to the state from outside.

The district-wise numbers of the locally transmitted cases are Malappuram 422, Ernakulam 254, Thrissur 252, Kottayam 233, Thiruvananthapuram 161, Alappuzha 197, Kozhikode 196, Palakkad 90, Kollam 158, Kannur 106, Pathanamthitta 107, Wayanad 58, Idukki 44 and Kasargod 13.

The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 8, Ernakulam & Kozhikode 6 each, Thiruvananthapuram & Palakkad 5 each; Thrissur, Malappuram & Wayanad 2 each and Kollam 1.

The district-wise tally of patients who tested negative today is Thiruvananthapuram 198, Kollam 306, Pathanamthitta 213, Alappuzha 302, Kottayam 352, Idukki 48, Ernakulam 582, Thrissur 575, Palakkad 291, Malappuram 822, Kozhikode 410, Wayanad 154, Kannur 172 and Kasaragod 56.

Till now, 6,11,600 people have totally recovered from Covid in the state even as 57,640 patients are still undergoing treatment for the disease.

There are currently 3,10,107 persons under isolation in various districts of the state – 2,96,920 under home or institutional quarantine and 13,187 in hospitals. 1,394 people were admitted to the hospitals today.

There is only one new hotspot while four areas were excluded. There are 433 hotspots in Kerala now.
