Total 63,135 active cases, 33,508 tests in last 24 hours

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 04: 3,021 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Kerala today along with 5.145 patient recoveries. 2,643 were cases of local transmission and the contact source for infection was not traceable in 284 cases. There are 42 healthcare workers among those infected. Meanwhile, 19 recent deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid and the related death toll in the state is now 3,160.

33,508 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.02%.  So far, a total of 80,99,621 samples have been sent for testing.

Since yesterday, Covid was also detected in two persons who recently came from the UK, taking the number of infected persons from that country to 39. Of the samples sent earlier to NIV, Pune for confirmation of the mutant Covid strain, 12 results have so far come with no presence of the genetically modified virus.

The district-wise numbers for the new positive cases are Kozhikode 481, Malappuram 406, Ernakulam 382, Thrissur 281, Kottayam 263, Alappuzha 230, Thiruvananthapuram 222, Kollam 183, Palakkad 135, Kannur 133, Pathanamthitta 110, Idukki 89, Wayanad 79 and Kasaragod 27. Of those diagnosed with the disease today, 52 have arrived in the state from outside.

The count of those infected through contact in the districts are Kozhikode 456, Malappuram 378, Ernakulam 350, Thrissur 273, Kottayam 225, Alappuzha 226, Thiruvananthapuram 143, Kollam 177, Palakkad 51, Kannur 98, Pathanamthitta 88, Idukki 77, Wayanad 75 and Kasargod 26.

The tally of the infected healthcare staff from the districts are Kannur 12, Thiruvananthapuram 10, Ernakulam 6, Thrissur & Kozhikode 3 each, Kollam & Pathanamthitta 2 each, and Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram & Wayanad 1 each.

The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 271, Kollam 273, Pathanamthitta 400, Alappuzha 240, Kottayam 800, Idukki 28, Ernakulam 749, Thrissur 677, Palakkad 258, Malappuram 522, Kozhikode 373, Wayanad 151, Kannur 246 and Kasaragod 157.

A total of 7,12,389 people have so far been cured of Covid in the state even as 63,135 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.

There are 2,32,135 persons in isolation in various districts of the state – 2,20,699 under home or institutional quarantine and 11,436 in hospitals. 1,277 people were hospitalised today.

Only one place was declared as a new hotspot today while two areas were excluded. Currently, there are 447 hotspots in Kerala.
